Question:

Should kitchen light fixtures match each other?

I found some track lighting that has red globes/shades for my kitchen area: http://www.lightinguniverse.com/products/view.aspx?sku=996516&linkLoc=recent. this is read w/ a brushed steel base.

The problem is for the connected eat in area, I want a pendant, but can't find anything similar or that I really like for that matter in red. Will it matter if the kitchen shades are red and the eat in area's is white? Or, should I give up on the red for the track lighting shades and stick to white? BTW, the kitchen is a tan/khaki color (Sherwin Williams Latte) and will have a 5ft wide accent wall that has a white door on that wall. That wall color will be a red/crimson color.

Here's what I'm thinking for that area:

Please help!

  1. the pendants are really pretty. I happen to like the first one better, maybe because of the way it is joined together.  I looked at the track lighting also. The thing they have in common is the silver, so I don't know, but my son, the architect, would not let me get unmatched lights.  We have recessed cans in the klitchen and rubbed bronze and iron looking sconces, chandeliers, etc everyplace else in the open living area. But the cans fit because they are in the ceiling, and they have black interiors.  I love red, but i don't know. Have you gone to a design store and run it by someone there? Pretend you are thinking about buying it and pick their brains for ideas.  Question, could you return the ebay light if it does not fit? On the other hand, it is not that expensive. You could live with it for  a while, then get another if you really hated it, or you could always change out the globes on the track lighting.

  2. Honestly I say go with what you like best! I don't think is has to match, then again I'm not Martha Stewart (thank God). It's your home, you make it the way you want to:)

Personally, I really like the red and since white matches almost anything, it wouldn't bother me to have different colors like that.

  3. They don't have to match. I like mixing it up to "match". I'm looking at the link, are you trying to get the red shades, or the amber ones?

Also, that specific lighting system should have a match. I used to work at Home Depot. It looks like lighting you could get there. If they had colors on one lighting system, they had the same colors on another.

Okay, Here are some things I found you MIGHT like, some are a little lighter red, and some will match with the khaki and red - kinda incorporate them together.

Brown would look good too - i prefer dk brown. that's the color scheme we've got in our bedroom. we like the earthy colors. reds, browns, and greens, in all shades. Also, bronze finish.

I added some off-white shaded pendants, in case all else fails. They'd actually look pretty nice too.
