Should live organ donation be mandatory?

Should parents be forced to donate organs (e.g. half a liver, a kidney) to their children if necessary? What about children who don't have parents > should someone be forced to donate organs for them?

  1. In a lot of families, it wouldn't even be an argument. My mother could never donate an organ to me or vice versa because we have totally incompatible blood types.


  2. I don't think anyone should be forced to donate organs.  But surely no parent would be unwilling to give one of their children an organ?

  3. No! Nobody should be forced to donate an organ. And this is NOT related at all to abortion. Caught ya!

  5. Parents don't need to be forced to donate.  They would gladly do it.  Forcing non-relatives to donate their organs is barbaric.

  6. No.. because the body is a very sacred thing, at least it is viewed that way by some people, and it would be a religious abombination to some to not have that body part buried properly or within the body.

    Some people believe that they will use their body in the afterlife, somehow, and that they need all of their organs. And who are we to tell them that they are wrong?

    I very much agree that people who do not hold these beliefs and do not donate their organs should definitely reconsider.

    Did you know that by donating your eyes when you die, the cornea can be taken from the eye and be used to cure blindness in one person?

    Yeah.. good question, though.

    I am politically Pro-Choice, but would never choose to have an abortion (or recommend it to any female I got pregnant). My thoughts on this are directly correlative: No one should be forced to do anything like that with their own bodies, but couldn't imagine denying to willfully do so if my child needed me to.
