Should married couples file seperately for get financial aid?

If they file jointly, couldnt that cause them to recieve less money, or none at all, if they're tyring to get financial aid for school?

  1. If you are referring to financial aid for college, you will have to use your tax return and the information off of it.


  2. If the person is married, they will be required to submit their spouse's return along with theirs if they apply for financial aid.

  3. How you file has no affect on your FAFSA.  You still have to show all income for the family unit regardless of how you file.  About all that filing separately does for you is cause you to may more tax.
