  1. During the debate running up to the last reforendum in Australia on becoming a repoublic, Clive James gaves an interesting reason in support of the status quo [paraphrase] "It is not about the power the Queen has not got, it is about her existence preventing anyone from assuming that power".  In other words, the system of a politically neutral head of state dictated by birth lends some defence against tyranny.

  2. That is extremely difficult to accomplish, because the monarchs have the power to ostracize critics and in doing so, those critics are silenced, to save their jobs, their work connections and their friendships with others

  3. Axe republicanism and restore all monarchies.

  4. It really depends on the country because so many countries have good monarchies who look after their people and treat them fairly and even more have monarchies like england where the royal family is really just a figure head and the government is run by the people (through voting officials into  office) But in some countries where the monarchy have abused their power yes the monarchy should be abolished or at least revised.

  5. I think that is up to each nation to decide for themselves. I would never say kill all monarchs-most are good, law-abiding people.

  6. most countries have responsible monarchies that don't treat their citizens poorly because they want to maintain a luxurious lifestyle and their country is in debt!

many countries in europe and asia have had this system for hundreds or even thousands of years with no destructive issues, they are fine.

  7. well England already took that path ... they ditched the monarchy in the 17th century ..

but they decided that having the monarchy was something that worked for them ...and it was restored in 1660.

  8. Oh,dear, another form of this tired question! No. And your saying bring back "Madame La Guillotine" is ludicrous. Many non-royals lost their lives to that horrid contraption as well.Monarchies actually work for the countries that they still exist in;it is a form of government that has evolved, made some changes and works.

I find that many people who are anti-monarchy are really anti-rich people. Well, the rich,as well as the poor, will always be with us.Instead about whining about those people who were lucky enough to be born into wealth, why not do something constructive.Volunteer to do some worthwhile activities:visit seniors who are in nursing homes, tutor children who are having difficulties in school, work at a homeless shelter, volunteer at a hospital. There are so many more worthwhile things to do than whine.

  9. i think that we are fortunate in the UK to have a history so full of glamor and intrigue and i would have 100 Queen Elizabeth's than endure another self obsessed Tony Blair with more power
