Should more land be set aside for wild life?

In Nigeria like in most other African countrys, thousands of square miles of land are protected by various government authorities or even private individuals, for the conservation of wild animals and their natural habitat. A prime example is the Yankari........ Do you agree with such a concept?

In Nigeria environmentalists are advocating for more portions of land to be protected, in order to meet the minimum requirement recommended by the world's top environmental organisations........ What do you think?

Yes more area should be set aside for wildlife and the remaining one's should be preserved as well.

Not only this the forests that are facing deforestation should be planted with same plants that were native.

Also we should learn to profit from such areas in constructive manner so as to make it sustainable for those people who depend upon it.

The thing is if the local people who depend on forests are not involved then the efforts will not bear fruit as much as it should be.

Hunters can be recruited as trackers, guides for site seeing etc.

Similarly others who have good knowledge of the area can be used as guards etc.

Certain hideouts should be made where tourists can see the animals without actually disturbing them.

If we can link conservation with profit in a constructive manner then it would serve even a bigger purpose.

the more land set aside the better, as long as it is actually protected and hopefully that protection is supported by the populace. there are lots of parts of the nigerian delta that are endangered of being destroyed by the activties of the oil companies, so keeping them out would be good. we are all going to need a lot more land soon, so the more protected, the more wildlife will survive until we start needing less land - when we have a smaller population and we can provide for our energy needs without using crops.

I think it is great and that they should protect as much land as possible for wildlife.  This type of conservation will also bring these countries money in the form of ecotourism.
