Should muslims stop smoking ?

ALLAH says in the qu'ran:

5.90 : O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.

we know that cigarettes and tobacco are intoxicants. so should we stop to smoke ?

in telling of the reward for believers in heaven the quran mentions wine, and emphasizes that is wine it doesnt dull your senses. so its obvious those things are frown upon in the quran which dull your senses.

When something is proven to harm, and harm exceeds good is haraam.  smoking has no benefit what so ever, instead it kills ownselves, loved ones, creates polution and waste of money.  No reasonable benefit what so ever.  

hmm... there were the times some years ago when some scholars mentioned it to be makrooh... and i don't hear these rulings from anyone anymore... except those who took knowledge from them and still keeps smoking...

I really wish these scholars' change of stand on the ruling for it being makrooh to haraam reached all those who took knowledge from them.

As for Muslims that do smoke of course they should stop.

ALL smokers should, not just Muslims. U'd be reducing pollution and less deaths from lung cancer--which can save millions of dollars that is needed in medical care.

Your not supposed to intentionally cause harm to yourself. Also I think it's a very unclean habit. If you go into a house where people have lived(and smoked) for a long time and you remove a picture on the wall you can see the stains.  It's not stated explicitly but it's better to be safe then sorry.

Tobacco is not an intoxicant as such...and seriously, if you want to follow any religion more strictly then you are correct, one should avoid doing any harm to their body. I suppose the three Muslim females down the street from me who sit outside and smoke most of the day would be frowned upon.  

Native Americans attribute a certain spirituality to smoking, just to offer an opposing point of view.

Ayatollah Shirazi, a renowned Shia scholar issued a fatwa regarding smoking as haram

Surah Al-Araf, :157

"And forbids them what is bad."

Surah, Al-Baqara, 2:195

"And make not your own hands contribute to your destruction."

There are plenty more, so yes of course muslims shouldnt smoke!

Salam for my dear friend .Yes  really all muslims should stop smoking because it will harm the health of smoker him/herself and also another persons around the smoker.Smoking now is haram just the same with khamar,gambling and lottery  which are assisted and included as satans'doing.Our health wil be ruined by smoking such as throat and lung cancer,high blood tension and heart attack,impotency and unhealthy fetus in the mother's womb.
