Should my Kicker 750.1 be going into protect mode?

My Kicker 750.1 is going into protect mode...

I'm using it to run 2 MTX Audio TR55 12s @ 2 ohms. Each sub runs at 400 RMS. I know that Kicker amps are underrated but am I overpowering this amp? It goes into protect mode after extended usage and the amp gets very hot.

Is it possible that the amp is not getting enough air circulation? It's in my trunk with plenty of open air around it. 99% of the time the system sounds great but once in protect mode, it takes a while to get back to business. In your opinion what am I doing wrong? Or what can I do to keep things cooler?

  1. you are underpowering your subs very much so.  Your RMS power is rated at 375 x 1 channel @ 4 ohms.  meaning you are giving each sub 187.5 w.  I dont know why it would go into protect mode though.

  2. the amp probally has a temp protect and thats why it shuts off when its hot, try mounting it on blocks so air can go underneath it, you can also get one of those laptop cooling plates and put it under your amp.

also those subs are DVC 4ohm subs. try wireing them in 4 ohm like this:

  3. Forget mounting it on blocks, not going to do anything for you. Try moving the amp, under either the drivers seat, or passangers seat. It will get plenty of cool air under their, and it will also make it so that it will be a total pain in the a$$ to steal it as well. That is right where I have my 1500 watt RMS amp located at. It has never gone into protect mode at all.
