Should my baby sleep all day after circumcision?

My son is 2 days old, and was circumcised this morning at 7 am. I've noticed that he has slept a whole lot more, seems a little irritable and doesn't want to eat very much. Are these common after this procedure?

  1. He's been traumatized, what do you expect. You're lucky that he isn't wailing constantly.

  2. It's common for any new born and ya it's possible that he could want to sleep more after a surgery like that or any surgery.

My son sleeps alot still and he is 3 weeks and never was circumcised.

  3. Yes this is normal. My son was the sameway when he was circumcised. And he was 3 months when he got circumcised. Just remember too keep his diaper clean and dry. I changed my son every hr. And my son healed in 4 days. If you are worried about anything, give the Dr a call. To ease your mind.

  4. It's a very traumatic thing for someone who has only been on this planet a mere 2 days. It often causes them alot of crying. Crying takes alot of energy. I'm sure sleeping is helping your son to feel better and regain his strength. As Dr. Sears says, it's a "retreat mechanism" for an overwhelming amount of pain. Give it a few days and if it continues, perhaps call the doctor to set your mind at ease. Some soft humming in the babies ears will be soothing when you're together.

  5. my son was like that.. if your are alot worry call your on call doctor.

  6. it is very common, between being born and circumsicion it's alot of changes so expectt a little irritability for the first few day. he should still wet diapers and p**p. if his eating lasts longer that 5 -6 hours you have to wake him.

  7. It's normal. Sometimes, they give tylenol for pain and it makes the baby sleepy. Plus, they get sleepy after being born. Being born is hard work.

  8. It is normal for any baby to sleep most of the first 3-4 days of their lives.  My son barely ate, and slept most of the first few days.  And no I did not have any pain meds at all, so there was nothing in his system.  But again totally normal.  If this eating lasts more then like 4-5 days I would start to worry and take him to his doc.  :)  Good luck with your little blessing

  9. This is common, his body has to heal and he will be irritable for a while-normal.

  10. Well yeah obviously he's in pain poor kid having part of his genitals removed. But you do need to be really vigilant because things do go wrong so take him to see the doctor if this continues.
