Question:

Should my cayenne peppers go from green to black to red?

I am asking because it seems some of them are getting a black coloring to them. It doesn't appear to be rot as the pepper is still good and firm, and the surface is still waxy and shiny. Anyone know how the full growing cycle goes?

  1. Red means ripe for cayenne peppers.  However, you be seeing the beginning of blossom end rot.

  2. When your peppers first start to turn they will become a dark purple/black color.  Sometimes it is in broad stripes.  Not to worry.  They will be red in a bit.  Blossom end rot is something entirely different.
