My dad recently applied for citizenship, he passed the test but the decision was left pending because something showed up on his record. 23 years ago he had a traffic violation and gave a fake name to the police officer. Today he got a letter in the mail telling him to come again a bring birth certificate, resident card etc......

Now he's afraid that if he shows up he will get deported or arrested. Should he show up? If he doesn't will they continue to pursue his arrest or deportation?

  1. he should show up, if they decide to deport him there are rules and guidelines that immigration follows and he would first have to go to court (deportation hearing) and a judge will decide if he should be deported or not... they don't just tell you to come in and deport you right then and there..

they might just want to clarify that issue and in the end he will get his citizenship... Good Luck!!!

  2. id say, go. if anything happens he has to inform his family or someone. just be positve.

  3. 23 years?  Fake name?  Your father is fine.  People can't match criminals to names anyway.  If you were being robbed and the robber blind folded you and before he left he said "My name is George Thompson" you would NOT be able find your robber by name alone.  He'll be okay.  And you don't get arrested or deported for such a thing.  At least IF the find out it was him, he'd have to pay a fine.  Espeically if he looks sorry.

  4. do everything by the law don't be a criminal

a different name will not get you tossed out of the country but evading might....

  5. Yes, he should go.  He has more to lose if he doesn't.

  6. Tell him to show up with his suitcase. He may need it.
