Question:

Should my dog be this tired?

My puggle is very active and social. We had a very busy three days due to the holiday weekend. She played very hard with other dogs and had a great time. She did not take any of her usual naps during the day. She played so hard that she ripped two of her paw pads. We came home today and she has slept all day-at least 8 hours-and is very sluggish. She is limping also due to her paw pads. She ate fine and had some treats. Should she be sleeping this much? Or is she just catching up on her sleep for the past 3 days?

PS: We were at a bbq this weekend and there were onions and grapes around (which I know are toxic to dogs) and I can't rule out that a kids didn't give her any of these things or she could have possibly gotten something from the ground. Just being cautious.

  1. If she's eating then she's okay. I'm sure she's just really tired from playing with other puppies and not taking her naps. Tomorrow she'll probably be more active (but most likely still sleepy).

    GOOD LUCK! :)

  2. I'm sure she's just worn out from all the excitement, plus with her pads being sore, that gives her even more reason to just be lazy.  I wouldn't worry.

  3. She Should Be Fine :)

My Dog Sleeps A Lot Too

    And He's Healthy:)

  4. From experience with my bullmastiff, if he was busy playing and having fun for a day or two, he would pass out and be exhausted for a day. This happened throughout his lifetime where he would wear himself out and need to recoup. I would think that was the reason your dog is acting that way.

For the paws being a little scraped up, you may want to put some neosporin on them while he is sleeping. It will make them heal very quickly, keep him from getting an infection and keep them moist. I used to use that on my bully for injuries and he would heal very fast.

If he is acting funny tomorrow, you may want to take him into the vet just to ease your mind about the possible grape ingestion. I gave my bully grapes when he was a puppy, not knowing they would possibly harm him but he never got sick from them.
