my fiance is considering joining the army and hoping to do so as an officer. I don't know what to expect. We live in pennsylvania and i know i will not be capable to move to a base or wherever he will be stationed. I have 2 children from a previous marriage and they have custody visitation on weekends with their dad, is this a bad option for us? please any advise will be appreciated

  1. Officers have more options as to family housing and such, but not when it comes to where he is sent.  I will likely be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan at some point.

  2. He could try and join the National Guard and hope for a AGR spot or try to get stationed at Carlie Barracks or one of the depots in the state.

  3. Well there's several things you can do, go back to court and seek either permanent or split custody, a 6month with you and him deal. The other options are Do a geo-bachelor thing, with can result in more money coming into the house, but can put a strain on the marriage. Or find a career that does not involve moving. All these things should have time and thought put into them, nothing to rush into. I wish you luck in whatever decision you choose.

  4. If you guys were married things will be diff.

  5. No, it would not be wise of him to join if you can't be with him.  I think it comes down to either getting married and choosing a different career or breaking off the engagement and him joining the army.  Unless your ex will allow you to move out of state with your kids.  Remember he will have about 6 months of training - some longer before they will station him anywhere.  Once you are married you can live on or off post and recieve a housing allowance.

  6. well if he wants to join, you cant be against it, you can talk to him about it, but if you guys get married then you all will be alright.....
