If my house is condemned because of damage covered under my policy, does the insurance company have to pay for it? The problem is my house can be condemned because of the damage. But the insurance company wont issue a check for even a 3rd of the damages.I have 4 kids and my floors could fall in at any time. The damage is over 500 sq feet. I dont have a clue what to do about this.

  1. Need more info hun!

  2. It totally depends on what caused the damage.  Was it pre-existing from before the home was purchased.  Things of that nature.  We need a little more info.

  3. You need to get your agent involved and get this resolved. An insurance company will try to get away with the lowest possible costs but if you and he/she can prove otherwise, they should work with you.

If not, look for a "public adjuster" who can represent you for a % of the claim - most take 10% fee of your claim.

  4. Why do you think the insurance company is responsible?  Where did the damage come from?  Okay, I understand.  You need to get an outside contractor or two prepare and estimate and re-submit your claim.  The insurance company is advancing you initital money to get the work started.  After the the work is complete, you present the bill to the company and they will begin to pay what is left.  You will most likely, not have to pay the insurance company the deductible.  They will with-hold it from the amount they owe you.  The key is to get outside contractors to validate the estimate amount.   Insurance companies will low-ball it everytime.

  5. IF it is actually covered under your policy, then it sounds like your compnay is oing to pay you the smaller amount and when the work is actually done and you submit receipts to show it has been repaired, they will then pay the balance.  this is usually how it works.  if it covered they should also be paying you loss of use.  this is for your expenses to live elsewhere, eat meals, etc until you can live in your home again.  contact your agent adn find out whats going on
