Should my husband and I spend our 4 extra European vacation days in Venice, Italy or London, England?

We are taking a cruise in September and it leaves from Venice, Italy, but our plane has to stop in London coming home. It wil just be the two of us and we'd love to see as many sights as possible during the extra 4 days. Thanks for any opinions/advice you can give!

Venice - definately.  Actually 3 of the days there, 1 day in London.  Do get a 3 day pass for the boats in Venice (they have boats there that are essentially busses in the canals - the easiest cheapest way to get around).

Venice is much smaller but the art, the archtecture, the food - Venice just has so much more than London has to offer.  So much of what London has to offer are things you have to live there for a while to appreciate.  London is hard to visit - you have to live there.

BTW, September is a great time to visit Venice - it has a tendancy to smell a bit in the heat of summer.  London is better in October through December.

I would pick Venice over London any day!  Our trip in Venice was simply magical.  We sipped champagne on the gondola with a great singer entertaining us.  It's amazing to see Saint Mark's Basilica flooded at high tide; people parking their boats in the "garage", or having the traffic lights at the canals instead of the roads, beautiful buildings, etc.  London is nice but no way is it as romantic as Venice :)

Your last name can be translated literally into "TheMonk". It is possible that one of your ascendants were very religious, or living near a monastery, or he was a farmer working as a peasant in lands owned by the Vatican.

Otherwise, it can come from the name of the Principality of Monaco in south France.

In any case, I would opt for the first one.

I'd spend the time in Venice.  I was there for a week, and before I went there friends told me that I'd get bored.  They were wrong.  It is the most fascinating city I've ever seen.  Spend a couple of days going round the main tourist sights, then spend a couple of days going off the tourist track and wander the little streets and canals and see the real Venice.

If you want the scenery, go to Venice. For food, you could go anywhere in Italy, really. Or you could just go to London for the pubs. Someone I know ran into John Cleese in a pub there one time.

Venice is an amazing city and it is definitely worth spending some time there however you don't need four days. From experience, i would say that two days in Venice is enough. If you have extra days and the opportunity to go to London, go for it! It might be helpful to consider various places you would like to see in each city and estimate how many days it would take to have the most fulfilling experience in each place. best of luck.

Definately Venice, because I can guarentee it is unlike any place you've ever been to in your life. It is like a whole world within itself. The people are nice, the food is great, and you can go walking everyday for weeks and just explore different areas and never get bored. However, if you don't like walking, London would be better.

i have not yet been to London but Venice was amazing i spent 10 days there and still did not get to see everything. it is pretty small but ther is so much to do there. London is more crowded so if you would like more of a secluded area with not as many people, go to Venice.
