We had planned to go to zjuajho but now we are thinking of pdc.

We really want a quiet, small place on the beach to stay. Does that exist in pdc? And cost we dont want more than $112 a night if possible. If you have been to z or to pdc let me know what you think. Totally confused in Portland Oregon

  1. Definately PLAYA DEL CARMEN!

  2. Both destinations are nice, but with some small diffferences. Playa del Carmen is on the Carribbean while Zihuatenejo is on the Pacific. Both are relativley small places and easy to get around and will have everything you will need for a great vacation. It shouldn't be a problem finding a hotel in your price range in either place.

Personally, I prefer Zihuatenejo.I just feel more comfortable there but I have friends who are just the opposite and prefer Playa del Carmen. Why not plan two trips and stay one place this time and the next time try the other. Below are some links that may help you decide. You can't really choose wrong because both places are winners...Have a great trip!

  3. Go to Zijuatanejo ,  Tropical Depression ERIN due to hit the Cancun peninsula, The tail end of Hurricane Dean is expected to swing around too.

I personally prefer Cancun, but even the depressions misses Cancun the humidity will be unbearable.

Flights may be canceled it is too close to official hurricane season.

  4. this is funny because i'm from portland originally, and i just came back from Zihuat.  i love zihuat and i highly recommend la playa del ropa as the best beach.  there is also la playa principal (the main beach) and la playa moderno...another pretty good beach.

my HUGE mistake was renting a bungalow that was not close enough to the water.  in my opinion, if you stay there, it is imperative that you have a hotel within a block or two of the beach, if not ocean front.  and it must have a pool.  the weather is very hot, you will not last more than a few minutes in the sun if you're walking.  within your budget, this is VERY do-able.

zihuat is small, and many of the hotels are "boutique-ish"  you may not find a large resort, but the internet has plenty of places.

on the beach, if your hotel does not have private access....you can rent an umbrella and chairs for  10-15 dollars a day.  (ps...you still tan under the umbrella!!  be careful! i recommend 10am to 2pm.  and then afer 5pm)

zihuta is a fishing village...very small and quaint.  it's a great place simply to relax, catch up with your mom and enjoy quality time together.  it's not for nightlife.  however, if you have a craving for that, ixtapa is within 10 minutes.
