Should my wireless card be doing this?

I have a brand new external wireless card for my ibm laptop. Its supposed to be 54mbps but it will sink down to to 24mbps and stay there for a while. So i was wondering if this is normal.

It's normal, your not too close to it so the signal drops therefore it cannot go as fast. If you want more speed buy a better antenna for the adapter.
