Should nations redefine their military?

French President Nicolas Sarkozy wants to reform the country's military, creating a smaller and more mobile army that he believes can respond to today's threats. Is it a plan other countries should follow?

  1. No, because it would never work for other countries. Unlike France, the rest of us are trying to protect the world by working in Iraq and Afghanistan to stop the terrorists and re-build a stable country, working in the Carribean to reduce drugs trafficking to America and Europe, and working in humanitarian efforts to help people in countries in Africa etc. Just because France decides not to help the rest of the world in this, doesn't mean that the rest of us should choose to do the same, and reduce our military too.


  2. Yes, because it is the American military that will protect them if some invades them again anyway. It is the American might that is what is feared around the world and what keeps some rogue countries in check for now. That; however, will change if Barack Obama becomes President. He will reduce our force down to the point of being ineffective, just like Jimmy Carter did in the 1970s. In that case, God help us all.
