Should office workers be friends?

Since starting at my new job 6 months ago, I have been given the cold shoulder by one of the guys (I am a 51/w/m, he is 25/v/m) who feels like one of his friends should have gotten my job.

This week we are both out of state on a business trip and he refuses to talk to me and avoids me at every opportunity.

Shouldn't men who work closely together kinda be friends with each other?

No, if he has issue with you let him learn to be a man and tell you.  You don't have to make friends at work -- you're there for business and to make a living.

Friendship amongst lateral employees should be pretty safe, but never hope for friendship with one's superiors.
