Question:

Should one follow the age-limit for school admissions strictly ?

Most schools in Bangalore have a cut off age limit of 1 yr. 10 months as on June 1 for playschool or toddler admissions.

What if a child is around 1 yr. 7 months as on Jun 1 ? Does it make that much of a difference ?

People in Kolkata do put their toddlers around 1 yr 5 months without any adverse effect on the children !

  1. It does not make any difference. It should be based on range of months. Schools should follow the principles of child psychology and social behavior.

  2. Inquisitive,

As much as I have sympathy for your situation the rules are necessary.  Maybe you could petition them to change the rules.  Once they bend the rules for you....it opens the doors for others.  And even if your child is a mature 1 yr. & 7 month old the next one may not be.   Good luck with your situation!

  3. The age limits for school are based on a generalization of how most children learn at what age. Did that make sense???

Children learn on different levels at different times. Starting a child before they are ready, may have negative effects on them. The cutoff is there so children can develop emotionally and mentally before they start school of any sort.

It's kind of choppy but I hope it made sense.

  4. yes they must

but what we can do if old people wants 2 study write

    it takes difference

    its okk........

  5. yes

  6. It is likely that the same aged children in the group would be at different levels in development areas. (physical, emotional, verbal, motor etc) What is also very likely is that they would make up for it in other areas and so not really stand out from the group.  A child who was at least 3 months younger would, in the best case, be ahead in one area of development.  This would make them stand out in the group. Also remember that because they have the age break where they do a child could actually be 2 years and 9 months old and in the group, they would not have qualified for last years class.  Would you really want your child to be the smallest and youngest in a class with the possibility of children 14 months older than him?  He will be much better off to be one of the oldest next year.

  7. Starting a child early in school, or even preschool (daycare) can have negative effects.  They might lag behind their classmates, since they weren't quite ready to learn or be put into that environment.  Also, even if there's just a few months diference, their size might leave them to bullying or teasing.

  8. Rules are made to be followed.   There was a reason why the rule was made in the first place, that may answer why the admission ageis 1yr. 10mths.

  9. Yes.  Those dates are usually picked with a buffer already built in.
