If one person income is $50,000 and anothers is $500,000, with a tax rate of 25%, isn't the one making $500,000 going to more taxes than the one making $50,000. In addition with the exemptions the one making $500,000 will be taxed on a higher percentage of his income.

  1. I don't know where to start...

A progressive tax does not tax higher earners a higher rate on all income, just on the marginal income.  So you at $500,000 and I a $50,000 all thing being equal pay the same rate on $50,000.  You pay a higher rate on the last $450,000.  That is called a progressive tax - we have had it for years.

  2. according to the Bible, they should.  The Bible says, to whom much is given, much is expected.

  3. I'm all for a flat tax.  Have been for years! But, I'd want there to be no write-offs.  If we lower the percentage for one, we lower the percentage for all.
