Question:

Should our family get car insurance under my sister's name since she has a clean record?

All the vehicles in my family are insured under my parents. Last year, both my brother and myself have gotten into pretty bad accidents and now the premium has gone way up. Is it a good idea to insure our replacement vehicles under my sister's name since she has a clean record?

  1. I hope my suggestion might be helpful, though you need to make the judgement yourself.I have tried this good resource.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  2. Well, your parents will have to give her their cars!  The name on the title, insurance, and loan all have to match.

And, it's not going to save you any money, as you'll STILL have to be listed as drivers on the policy!  Otherwise, you're not covered, and neither is the car.

  3. I'm a little confused. You, your brother and your sister all live with your parents. You have a family policy and I am assuming everyone has cars and insurance. You and your brother's driving record has increased the insurance premium but aren't your parents and sister still on the policy?

What do you intended to do? You cannot pick and chose which cars you want your sister to cover. She, if she is eligible, would have to insure all the family cars and you and your brother's driving records would still be used to calculate the premium.

There are many auto insurance companies. Obtain a quote for the entire family that includes your parents and your sister and their good driver record may offset your accidents and you can get some reasonable rates.

You do all have to be living in the same home.

  4. No.  It is deceitful and unethical to do so.   In addition, (1) you could have an uninsured loss if the insurance company finds out you lied on the application; and (2) let your sister maintain her own clean record.

  5. First, it is a form of fraud to insure the cars under your sister in order to avoid the premiums that you and your brother have earned. Secondly, to switch to your sister might cause the insurer to exclude the two male driversfrom the policy. That would be even worse than the high premiums. If your parents record is fairly clean, they will be a bigger influence in keeping the cost down than your sister anyway.
