Do you think LRT should be considered to be the best mode of transportation in the Philippines? And, do you think our government should add more in our country to provide its people a sort of effective transportation? What would our government say about this? Do you think our governors would say that we have insufficient funds?

  1. LRT and MRT are the best means of transportation for they are traffic free, pollution free, economical and time saving.

The government is now trying to construct LRT from Bulacan to Pangasinan, I think.  There is a need for all of us to be more patient to see this project's completion.

  2. The best thing our government should do is fast track the construction/developemnt of the existing railway system. It would be easier and cheaper.  It can encourage the city dwellers move to the suburbs. All indsutrial and 1st world country have a developed railway system. I have taken train rides in Japan, Hong Kong and China and saw how it encourages people to live outside of the city since they are managed in a very efficient way.

Remember the proposal of former Dept. of Transportation Gerry Orbos? To load all container vans on the train so that they would not have to be on the streets of Manila. Unfortunately, it runs contrary to some ideas of our businesman-politicians.

  3. well,it would help particularly for those bound to nearby cities and provinces like Laguna,Cavite, Batangas and Bulacan. the lesser public utility vehicles that we have, the lesser the traffic and pollution.

But then again, that's not just where the problem lies.

1.There is also a need to educate our people and drivers when it comes to stops, loading and unloading areas.

    2. The roads should be well maintained, widening of course would be a big help but already far from reality since we are congested in the Metro.

    3. Lessen as well the private cars that ply through our streets. they make traffic really worst as well.

  4. YES!

I have travels all over the world and have seen places where they have those trains that resembles our LRT/MRT, I want to make Thailand

's BTS they have seen the positive effect of that trains when it went to operations. The traffic was lessened and its a faster and more efficient way to travel. The Jeepneys, buses and the noisy tricycles are okay but majority of the drivers are so (eyes rolling) undisciplined.

Philippines is just or can be as rich as those "first class" countries, its just those corrupt people at the government allocation the peoples money for themselves. So insufficient funds? I DON'T THINK SO!

  5. For me jeepneys stays as one of the mode of transportation in the Philippines and we cannot change it...the only thing that we should do is to improve the construction of the roads and its structure...I think the government had already plans for adding LRT stations...trains are much better but the government would say, we don't have such funds for that....

  6. It would be a very forward advancement.  Jeepneys are very outdated and inefficient mode of transport except for inner city short runs.

  7. Light railway transit.   Yeah.  Good enough for now.

Eventually, though, since we are are island nation(7,000 of them and more), we should look at water to be our main transport system.  Canals and waterways and submerged tunnels.

Think of a modern city with alluvial means of transport.  Elevators can go sideways, like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, moving by hydrodynamics.

  8. I cannot answer your question directly as 'yes' because putting up 'LRT' does not mean that Philippines can attain an efficient or effective transportation.

What the government is doing now is they are going to create more Mass/Light Rail Transit systems to improve the Public Mass Transportation. They (assigned government agency/sector) are also studying the Bus Rapid Transit systems that has been successful and gained acceptance by the public in other developed, developing and even underdeveloped countries. Since MRT and LRTs have been placed in their designated routes as of this time, BRT may work in some other areas, not necessarily Metro Manila.

There are lots of components to be considered for better and efficient transportation to take place - one is urban design and planning, another is how they will interconnect the public transportation systems (buses, trains, etc) that will make the trips of people efficient, effective and economical.

Infrastructure wise, costs may vary but should serve the purpose on the long run.

Hope this one helps my friend.

  9. before adding structure after structure, effective transportation starts at policy making/implementation, then traffic enforcement. no matter how many LRT's & MRT's are there in the Philippines, it won't entirely solve the problem of traffic congestion. (hint: why is it so convenient for people here to walk to a moving bus/jeepney that obstructs traffic than wait at the shed? we can't take the jeepneys out of the equation because people make a living as per PEJODAP. fine the people who make the jeepney pull over, not the jeepney driver who'll always pick up a passenger for 10 easy pesos.)

the government already has plans of extending the current LRT lines as well as reviving the old railway that stretches from La Union to Albay... having LRT's/MRT's should only be exclusive to other densely populated cities like Cebu and Davao, there's enough at Metro Manila.

our government will try to avoid another white elephant... but when it comes to transportation, it's always been useful no matter how much it costs. there's never a shortage of funds (does EVAT sound familiar?), just the absence of political will.
