Since toning builds muscle and as we know muscle weighs more than fat. is it wise for a person trying to lose weight to do toning, as they would gain more muscle weight

  1. the reason overweight people are at risk for many diseases and other sicknesses is because the high amount of fat surrounding their internal organs.. so muscle would not make an overweight person less healthy.. and muscle burns more calories than fat all day long, so having more muscle will make losing weight easier

  2. Weight training actually burns a ton of calories. Doing weight training in conjunction with cardio will burn more calories than if you do just cardio alone.

  3. no that is false.....

while cardio training is on of the most important factors in someones weight lose, that along a sound eating plan....

working out with weights should not be skiped or undermined, as working out tightens and tones your body, and the more muscle u have the faster your meatbolism gets..

heavier people should be doing higher reps...

  4. By doing cardio, you will also get toned.

  5. A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat.  Also if you gain more than a pound of muscle a week it will be amazing.  Think about it a body builder on roids at the age of 30 weighs about 300 pounds.  That's 10 pounds a year at a huge caloric diet and tons of exercise.  It is very important you do both.  Muscle burns fat being inactive  Fat just sits there.  Also lifting burns more calories an hour than cardio.  If you do both you will lose fat so much faster than gain muscle.  Even at first you might put on a little more muscle than you like but in the end it wont make a difference.  Then you will get like I was and bed for a pound of muscle.

  6. First off, trust the mirror not the scale. Secondly, muscle burns more calories, so  if you start to do some weight training it will help shed more weight. Don't get stuck on the numbers on the scale. Go by how you look, feel and inches lost.

    Good Luck.

  7. yes they should stay away from toning and just do cardio first until they lose enough weight to tone.

  8. true muscle weighs more then fat, but muscle's burn more calories then fat does. also muscle is leaner. it takes up less space then fat.

  9. Like so many people you are confusing weight loss and fat loss. It doesn't matter if you weigh more because of muscle, it's excess body fat that is harmful. Forget about weight and focus on body fat percentage.

Gaining muscle is good because 1) any muscle you add will actually reduce your overall percentage of body fat therefore making you leaner and 2) the more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn.

Anyone who says overweight people should only do cardio and not strength training is very misinformed. Ask any fitness professional and they will tell you the same.
