I have a few people who I would like to write me a recommendation for college. Is it ok to have them send these to the college themselves, or should they be sent to me, so that I can put them with the rest of my application?

  1. Yes, colleges can see whether the letter was seen or not seen by he who was recommended.  It has been noted by applicants to med school that the letters that were not seen have a much bigger effect on the college     they applied to than one that have been read.

  2. They should be included with the application package you present to the college.  Have them sent to you.

  3. They should be sent directly to the college.  (college professor)

  4. DO NOT HAVE THEM SENT TO YOU!  You should have them sent to the college.  Most colleges won't take them as seriously if you send them with your application because they assume the person wrote something nicer than they would actually say because you had access to the letter.  Give your recommendors addressed stamped envelops when you ask them to write them and make sure you waive your rights to read the recommendations if you want the colleges to take you seriously.
