I know that it may offend some people, but it becomes an extreme pain trying to hide them especially in the summer.

I think it depends on you and where you live. I have extensive scarring and eventually got up the guts to wear them and almost no one asks about them. If someone in the hot tub or something asks about them that annoys me I usually pull out a sarcastic excuse (Look up what to say when someone asks about scars - theres a bunch of funny answers including "I got in a fight with a porcupine") but if it's someone at work or something (FYI I bare my arms at the office and only once has one of my coworkers asked me) and you think its a good situation to be honest in, tell them. If it's something you worked through/are working through you should be proud. If you are uncomfortable or going to a place where you may feel better "protected" so to speak, cover up until you've tested the waters. Just be aware that if you're uncomfortable, that's usually when other people get uncomfortable, too. Do what makes you feel good.
