Should plastic water bottles be outlawed?

Production of the plastic releases deadly toxins into our atmoshere. Land fills our already full, and yet everywhere you go you see dozens of people buying water. Come on people! Ever heard of a canteen? For the fashion conscience I'm sure there are some cool ones.

  1. Well, I recycle mine...

  2. No just a pollution surcharge of $1 each of which $1.20 paid if recycled

  3. i don't understand the post above... since when is trying to slow the destruction of the planet a religion?  i think it will be difficult to completely stop the production of plastic bottles, but we could/ should definitely phase them out... or at least have recycling readily available to people.

  4. Yes, and I agree with the person that mentions the bottles should be glass.  I also agree with your canteen idea, I use a stainless steel container and it works great.  In Canada plastic baby bottles were recalled because of the toxic chemicals in the plastic.  Why can't we buy drinks in glass bottles anymore?  When I was young (in the '80's)  coke and Pepsi were in glass bottles and I never had a problem, and I never broke one either.  Bring back glass!!!

  5. Im not sure how it would work . Not saying every one in the country ( or world) but most people who buy bottled water do not have great water systems. Even though u have a great point. People could buy a brita filter and fill up cups. But to out law something just makes people angry

  6. I don't understand how being concerned for the place you live is a religion or necessarily makes you an environmentalist. I think the production of plastic water bottles should at least decrease. A canteen isn't a bad idea, however the convenience of a plastic water bottle is what attracts people right? Maybe something disposable but isn't made of plastic? Just an idea!

  7. I agree, especially since most bottle waters are just filtered, why not make it glass bottles (infinite recycles) and use re-use stations at local stores (this is done in Australia with beer.)

This way there's less "food miles" with water, it could be cheaper for the consumer, and make more money for the manufacturer.

    Save 50%, charge 25% less.

-Consumers spend less, get more eco-conscious product,

-Producers get more money, and make less enviro-impact,

    Who exactly looses here?

  8. no..but there should be more eco shaped bottles...plastic is recycleable

  9. I think that plastic is a good thing to have for other reasons but I think plastic should have a return on it like cans do and maybe then people will do less of throwing them away. I recycle everything that I can because it saves me money in the long run anyhow.
