  1. What a load of S&%*.

Coming from a family (and as an individual) with serious mental illnesses, this is absolutely insulting.  There is significant sound science and historical evidence behind the practices and treatments used by reputable psychiatrists.

I also question the original authors position about "Force"  I have been involved with numerous psychiatrists and psychiatric studies.  Never have I been FORCED into a treatment, and I have always had informed consent.  The only cases of FORCED treatment are those specifically authorized by the laws created by the legislatures that you as a citizen elect (treatment of criminals or those who are deemed a danger to society).  Even suicidal individuals can not be forced into a treatment without their consent (in many states).

This is an rant by someone who, based on the last lines of the statement, once had received some help for their obvious paranoia, but they have obviously discontinued their treatments.  My guess would be, based on just the authors statement, that some court or other found them to be dangerous to society (perhaps some domestic disturbance or something similar that brought them into court) and by court order they were sentenced to receive some treatments.  Hence the "Force" position.  Seeing as they were compelled by the judge to be treated, as soon as that order was completed or rescinded, they immediately quit the treatment program and are now turning their paranoia on the doctors who tried to help them.

To further spread this c**p is to feed the delusions of a paranoid mind and to disparage an proven medical profession with false claims and without evidence.

Sorry, just calling it as I see it; with over twenty years a patient who has received help from those professionals.

  2. There is no need to stereotype anything because the profession stereotypes itself.  It is not about "good" or "bad" individuals.  It is about a system that does not care about the law, human rights, civil rights, or informed consent.  That is "institutional, not individual" you nut-brain.

It is amazing to me how many people protect Psychiatry that don't have any personal experience with it.  Most who did agree with the questioner--yes, it should be banned.  For all the reasons above and we can add the fact that there is no science behind it--only the three F's:Fear, Fraud, and Force.    20% of the healthcare dollar and no measurable improvement in people's lives.  Well I guess that would say it to many people.  Those who believe it is a good profession are deluded themselves.  It is a huge argument against capitalism, but certainly since it destroys freedom wholly, if you believe in the constitution and the rule of law and due process Psychiatry simply doesn't agree with that because it cannot justify itself doing anything according to those things.   Anything actually good and beneficial wouldn't need to apply such wholesale nondiscriminatory FORCE to convince anyone of its beneficence.  The drug companies, hospitals, hospital staff, and doctors certainly benefit from it bigtime.  Patients mostly do not.

That's why it is bullshit and ought to be banned, absolutely. And these are just the tip of the iceberg as reasons.  It is really used as a substitute to "explain" the ills of society too--homelessness, addiction, and even crime.  It uses fear heaped upon fear to persuade people of its usefulness if not necessity but when we look for actual documentation that this is so, we find no such thing.  There are no studies.  The profession wants no studies because THEN you see, for the first time SCIENCE would be introduced, and would be none too flattering for the profession.  So it will continue to hide behind smoke and mirrors until unmasked by the victims of its crusades, which by the way include me.
