  2. I work for the public school and the system pays for our uniform shirts.    I don't know where the money comes from, but I expect it is either a tax write off or a government fund.  Therefore,  the tax payers are paying for my shirts.

    Thank y'all.

Anyway, back to questions,  I think it should help low -income families buy uniforms but I think that the low-income families should provide financial statements before the tax-payers take on the expense.

  3. The uniforms generally cost less than regular school clothes would.  If a family truly cannot afford it - as in the child would not be getting school clothes anyway - then yes, there should be some sort of scholarship available.

  4. it depends on the income....

  5. Only if they help pay for everyone's uniform.  Public schools are for the public, not just the low-income families.

  6. I agree with dhc. it is the parents responsibility to provide the kids with clothes. the school should provide them more essentials of education . like teaching them how to research and critically think.

  7. Are you talking in the UK? Where public schools mean that you pay to get in? If you can get in, then you should have to pay for the uniform yourself, too.

If you mean in North America, where public schools are government-funded schools, if it's an actual uniform, then the school should have a reasonable price on the uniform or provide it free for everybody. If it's a matter of a dress code (black pants, white shirt), then no. It doesn't cost any more to purchase black pants and a white shirt than it does to buy jeans and some other shirt.

  8. Would have saved us a lot of money when our kids were in school but since we've pulled them out to home school I'm not so worried about it. Now I wish I could get some of the money that the government is dumping into the schools back in the form of a tax credit would be nice.

  9. Yes, IF the school is public, but things are never like they should be, you could fight it, but will probably not win.....

  10. No.  They would need school clothes anyways, it is the parents responsibility to care for and clothe their children.
