Do you think students will feel more secure if they would have the chance to say a prayer at the begining of the day ? If they were tought about God maybe there wouldn't be so many shootings in schools . I think it was a mistake to stop religion in schools , what's your opinion?

  1. I definitely think it is a mistake that children are not taught morals from the Bible. All the shootings happen now, when children come from broken families, so they have nothing to hold on to; you never heard about something like this in the past days and it's a shame that innocent young children have to die because of some wrong laws that are being passed. If we can teach our children in class how to  get close to God  for sure they wouldn't be trying to hurt others and they wouldn't be carrying weapons to school or anywhere else.

    great question!

For those that say no: in my country religion is still taught in schools. For different religions we have different teachers. Each student is taught his own religion, whatever they say this might be. They share all the other classes but for religion , children of different beliefs are grouped together and taught those values. To this day, there were no children hurt or abused because of this. America should learn!

  2. Nope.  Not everyone follows the same religion.

  3. No. For multiple reasons. The most obvious being that there would be conflicts over which religions should be taught. Also, students already can say a payer anytime they want to in school, the fact that they aren't shows that it isn't up to schools to teach children about religion. The family of the children should be responsible for raising their kids in a moral home (whether or not a religion is the basis of that morality) And in no way does religion stop violence, if anything, it often leads to more fighting. It doesn't take much of a history lesson to know that most of the major wars and conflicts were primarily over religious beliefs. I think that as we are not a theocracy (in name anyway) that religion should be freely practiced, but it shouldn't be mandatory in schools.

  4. i think that reintroducing religion into schools would cause conflict. i don't believe in god, and there are many other students that don't as well. teaching religion at a public school is a violation of our rights to freedom of religion.

  5. People of all kinds come to (I'm assuming) public schools. If we only pray to God, students of other religions would be outraged that they have to pray to someone they may not believe in. If they really want to pray that badly, I think they should just say a prayer silently to him or herself.

  6. Students can pray whenever they want to, no one is keeping them from it. Students will continue to pray as long as there are pop quizzes for them to struggle through. It just isn't a good idea for the school or its authority figures to force the saying of prayers. Why do the schools need to be the place for children to learn about God? Don't they get enough of that at home and in church? Do children need to be immersed TOTALLY in religion for them to be moral? Who's religion? Why must the state be the arbiter of religion?

Should scientists go into the churches and preach evolution? If not, then why should religion be forced on children in the place where they're supposed to be learning about reading, writing and arithmentic - and science?

Do you really believe that school shootings are the result of the separation of church and state? I believe they are a result of horrendous parenting.

  7. Why would religion stop violence in school?  Have you ever studied the history ( and in some cases current state ) of violence in religion?

  8. A block of time should be allowed for all to pray, think or meditate their choices.  No one would have to but those who want to could have that option.

  9. No child can be prevented from praying in school though a child can be prevented from disrupting class in any way.

Fantasy should be taught, if it seems appropriate, in the home.

  10. No. Religion isn't the moral definer in our society. Parents and families are responsible for handling their children.

Religious indoctrination in school is both unconstitutional and wrong. Keep it at home.

  11. not really.....if they would, they would have to pray with muslims, buddist etc. What if your christian and they did prayers only for hindus? they may in some states but right now they arnt. they dont need prayer, they need coprol punishment.

u have this qustion posted like 12 times. u r****d! u supposed to only post it once. no offence.

  12. no. not everyone is the same religion and it would be unjust and unfair. bad idea.

  13. I dont think it should ever have been taken out. IN God We Trust is on every piece of money we have and on most of our government buildings. It was a mainstay in the start of this country so to take it out because it might offend is dumb.  I am in no way saying that every child be required to participate but the option should still be there.

  14. dylans.sarah, America was not founded on religion, it is not a theocracy (not in principle anyway). It is founded on the separation of church and state. The state school system is not a religious institution and has to cater to people who are not religious as well as christians (and others).

Religion should stay in the home and the church where it belongs.

  15. Yeah, since there are no shootings at churches.

You are drawing a correlation where none exists. It would be like me arguing "There were almost no school shootings before we added 'Under God' to the US  pledge of allegiance, let's get rid of it". Would you go for that?

  16. I went to a catholic school.

We had bomb threats all the time.

We also prayed for 15 min at the beginning of class and had liturgy twice a week

Separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other.

No. It would cause a national uproar of conflict.

What people need in school are mentors and teachers that actually care about there students.

Parents that pay attention to their depressed starved for attention whiny spoiled kids.

My belief in God is a personal choice.

I am spiritual on a personal level and do not preach to those who are a different religion, or no religion at all.

Freedom of religion....we should all be so lucky that we even have it that way! Many people seem to take that privilege for granted. Forcing it down others throats isn't going to help a d**n thing.

  17. No.

You can't force a religion on to someone. No matter what you do, a person will form their own opinion. Sometimes pressuring a person to believe pushes them away. Allow nature to take it's course.

  18. I don't believe lack of moral fiber causes things like school shootings.  I think it's kids being treated like outsiders, both by their parents and by classmates.  But perhaps love and community being preached, as it is in a church, could have tipped the balance a bit.  Maybe their classmates wouldn't have been so mean to them.

But then again it depends on the particular religion.  Some religions really push the idea that there are good people who get to go to heaven and there are bad people who are supposed to go to h**l and which one are you?  Reinforcing the idea that some people don't belong.

  19. that's absolutely not true...  I don't even know where to start. If you want to talk about shootings and violence maybe you should look at the history of religion. How many people were killed and tortured in the name of God (or gods)? religion has been one of the biggest contributors to tension among people for as long as it has been around. *making a distinction of course between organized "religion" and personal "spirituality". If you were to introduce religion to schools, it should be all or nothing, educate your children about all types of religions and cultures so they can make well educated well rounded choices. most shootings and violence stem from misunderstanding and lack of communication.

  20. I don't believe in religion in schools. Secularism is needed in public institutions and schools are there to give children academic education, not religion. I'm fine with kids having a "moment of silence" but there should be absolutely no implications that the time should be used to pray. Schools are for learning, not religion.

  21. no, it will only cause an uproar from parents. kids probably wont care but their parents really will

  22. NO, I believe in the separation. Kids should be taught religious beliefs at home.

  23. Religion has done a lot to divide people and those are still uncorrupted should be kept that way as long as possible. Why religion in school? I think it's a bad, bad idea.

  24. What god/religion would you suggest? There are so many religions. To choose one, and force it on all, would be a mistake. It is up to a child's family to provide that information. Anyone can say a prayer at the beginning of their day, it won't stop a school shooting.
