  1. WHAT A LOAD OF c**p! most secondary teachers spend 5 years studying a single subject and are usually credentialed and qualified to teach just that one subject. what you propose is idiocy!

switching up like you suggest will not work at the secondary level and really is not all that wise at the elementary level either.

  2. No, there should not be restrictions, but frankly, I cannot imagine teaching the same subject AND grade level for 30 years.

A change of pace is refreshing, and turns on the creative juices.

  3. Absolutely not

The more you do something the better you get at it,

I'd rather have my child taught by a teacher who has been doing it for 30 years than have my 1'st grader being taught the first time by someone who's been teaching 5th graders for the last 7 years.   In that case it would be natural for the teacher to treat my 1st grader like a 5th grader, and they are nothing alike in behavior or learning ability

  4. No.  It should be left up to them, in consultation with their head of department or the head/principal or the school.

Some teachers develop a particular rapport with one age group and become very skilled at teaching children in that grade or age group.

In secondary education teachers usually specialize in one or more subjects, teaching that/those subject[s] for their whole career.  They can become very expert in their subject[s] and offer their students the best instruction/education in that area.

However, teachers can sometimes become too set in their ways and changing subject or age group can be a stimulating challenge for them, refreshing their teaching to the benefit of the students.

You can't legislate for this.  It must be left to the individual teacher and the particular school to decide what is best - firstly in the interests of the students and secondly in the interests of the teacher and their career.

  5. No, not at all.  Usually a teacher has a specialty and why would you want someone to teach when they don't have specified training in that subject?

  6. no

  7. i think the opposite for someone who has bounced around middle and high math classes,  having different preps each year , it lacks continuity and burns me out.

u become a specialist with yr grade level and subject area.  now if they dotn become a master teacher in their subject area by about year 5 maybe their line manager should suggest a change

  8. I think that a teacher should be teaching a grade or subject that he/she is most  comfortable with and that it should only change at the request of the teacher OR if the administrator is concerned by the overall performance of the teacher for that grade/subject.

What would be the purpose of forcing a teacher to change grades/subjects?
