there has been efforts to regulate satalite radio/cable tv

if that happens, you can say goodbye to shows like The Saprannos

the latest effort was a bill from a Alaskan senator of whom I forgot his name

  1. Satellite IS regulated by the FCC. Who do you think granted them their licenses?

It's just different than terrestrial because of the subscription aspect. Much like the cable TV stations can go further than the terrestrial - because you pay for them (even though it's rolled up in your subscription).

  2. It's regulated by the FCC currently for broadcasting frequency and spectral purity as well as the ground based repeaters.

What you are asking about is content. And my vote is unless it's something very illegal that almost everyone would be against, It should be allowed.. I know one of the things I like about satellite radio and internet radio is actually hearing the real versions of songs cursing and all.

If you are paying for it, then you are consenting for the programming plain and simple... you can block stuff on the radio itself to keep kids from hearing.. Most people pushing for regulation of content is because the constituent is too dumb to do self regulation.

  3. absolutely not. It is a PAID SUBSCRIPTION with clear warnings for all objectional material. These are NOT public air waves, if you are getting the signal then you have chosen to and paid for it.

  4. Because satalite is a pay service that a person has to actively request, the job of discretion lies with with the subscriber. It's similar to cable...public channels that are accessible to anyone are monitored, but subscription channels like HBO or even just the "upgraded" regular channels are pretty much allowed to show whatever they like.

So the the answer of SHOULD they regulate: no. Unless there is something illegal or abusive going on, but that would probably be classified as something other than FCC regulation.

  5. ted stevens, who ALLEGEDLY received a free renovation from a contractor who later got state contracts and added 50million in pork for a bridge to an island that would benefit 50 constituents.  yeah, he wants to make sure sirius does not have an unfair advantage over regular radio!?!?  anyway what we need is less governmental interference in our lives.  they regulate what we watch on tv, listen to our phone conversations, read our email.  now some want them to decide that we cannot listen to "that's so wrong" anymore.  satellite radio should not be regulated by the fcc.

  6. eh...yer
