  1. For:

Puts children in a proper mindset for school - uniforms on, time for school

    Less 'label' angst/bullying

    Sense of belonging

Helps identify pupils on school trips

    Against:

    Prohibitive cost

Confusion amongst possesions when changing for sports (name tag everything!)

I'm from UK where most children do wear uniform so maybe am biased

  2. people get more confidence when they wear clothes that they want. and it's more comfortable when youre wearing clothes thats right for the weather

  3. only if the students like the outfits. But I say free choice! Power to the students! If students feel they need regular outfits then let it be! Power to the people!!! That was funny. But seriously students should get the choice to wear as they wish.

  4. Ok. First of all, what is being a student? Your job.

Now. What do adults do at their jobs? They work. So do students. What do adults wear? They wear sharp, clean, nice clothes that show that they are professionals and they know what they are doing.

Remember, first impression is everything. If you see a person lolling at their computer in baggy jeans, and oversized, untucked T-shirt, a backwards baseball hat, and lots of "bling," you think, "Wow, that person looks really unprofessional and stupid."

Whereas if you see a person sitting straight up at their computer, wearing a nice button-down shirt (tucked in), jacket/sweater, and tie, with pants that actually FIT *gasp* then you think, "Well, this person looks much more professional then the person over there. They must know what they're doing then."

Uniforms in school are the same way. When you see a group of teenagers in matching, clean uniforms that are all tucked in, the boys are wearing ties, and they are all sharp-looking, you will think they look more clever and intelligent then a bunch of teens over there who are wearing baggy pants, hoodies, short skirts, etc.

Now don't get me wrong. Not all teens wear clothes like the ones above. But do a growing majority do? Yes. Uniforms make a bunch of kids look more professional and smart then another bunch of mismatched children, no matter how smart those two groups of people are. Almost any person would choose the sharp, neat kids over the messy group for intelligence IF they were not allowed to ask about their intelligence levels first.

To conclude, uniforms make teens and children alike look much sharper and professional for their jobs, being students. It also prepares them for the real world, where they will be compelled to dress that way too.

  5. in america to draw something usally means its a fluid I.E. water as in a wet T-shirt contest I.E. That Budwieser shirt was great at drawing away the water from her soaked (fill in the blank)

  6. do your own homework.

  7. your question would be better asked in a general or regular ed section

this is the Special Ed section

  8. I went to catholic school and wore a uniform for 8 years.  Now at the time I didn't care for it but these days I truly understand  it ... of course that comes some 25 years later.

While it's tough if you have limited income to afford clothes and uniforms, in school it eliminates seeing "labels".   Of course kids always know who's got what, but at least it's kept out of sight to some degree.  It can also help teachers view children on their own merits as well.  I'm sure there's a lot more but I'll save space for others.

  9. against the motion:

school uniforms act as an equalizer - puts everyone (or tries to, anyway) on the same level.
