Should scientists enter politics to effectively promote science?

Is it perhaps the lower remuneration preventing this, or simply the desire to concentrate on science in the science communty rather than promoting it among the general public.

  1. Interesting question: I agree with the implication that science needs to be promoted more.  In practice I can't think of a single scientist who has chosen to enter politics, can you?  Plenty have written popular science, and science fiction, in an effort to promote their ideas, but they don't become pollies.

    It's probably because they would cease to be scientists if they did that.


  2. politics is about governing, specific agendas, economics, and controlling people. Science is about facts. Politicians cannot be successful with facts alone -- shall we discuss intelligent design ?
