  1. Undecided

  2. yes, of course it is safer...

  3. I thought they were.

Yes, they should be, but no, the kids won't use them.

  4. I fully agree with UCANTCME no we do not and should not. The only busses that have seatbelts are the special needs busses. I drive a school bus and have for 8 yrs, I know what it is like to try and control 65 kids on a bus. I transport grades child developement through 2nd grade and 9th through 12th grade. You want to talk about crazy at the end of the day! ;)

  5. No because of the following reasons.

Compartmentalization, a concept seen frequently on commercial airplanes, involves seating passengers in rows of padded seats with cushioned backs.

The belief is that during frontal or rear impact, the most common types of wrecks involving school buses, passengers would either be pushed back into their seats or thrown forward into the padded backs of the row ahead.

The use of seat belts might require stiffer seats, which would negate the theory of compartmentalization.

It is also feared that some students would receive internal injuries from seat belts through a process called submarining, the tendency for a body to slide downwards during impact.

Seat belts on school buses may also hamper rescue or evacuation efforts, as adults or older students may have to spend precious minutes unbuckling young or disoriented passengers.

Unruly students could also use the heavy buckles as makeshift weapons, creating even more of a safety hazard.

There is also the argument that seat belts would only protect passengers of school buses during unusual events such as roll-overs or flips, not other possible accidents such as fires or submersion.

Considering the expense of retrofitting current school buses or replacing entire fleets with approved seat belt systems, the benefits of seat belt use do not currently outweigh the liabilities.

  6. no.

school busses aren't prone to crashes like cars, as they are so massive, their inertia will destroy anything in it's path.  Plus, seat belts are expensive, and many school systems can't afford them, and they can reduce capacity, which is also critical for affordability.

  7. yes and no...it would make it safer but annoy the kids and any way bus drivers a very well trained and if they do crash, buses are very strong and no one will get badly injured so...i think they sould put them on but souldent be compusery except to younger children.

  8. yes or those kinda restraints they have on roller coasters, sometimes just going over a bump will cause the kids in the back of the bus to fly up and hit their head on the ceiling. then they get a broken neck, very preventable

  9. yes, and make the kids wear them

  10. They don't put them on school buses because in the event of an accident....fire etc.   It would take longer for the kids to unbuckle themselves and escape.

You can look at it two ways....I say NO.
