  1. Gentlemen ALWAYS remove their caps and hats on making the acquaintance of a lady.

    Officers, who are in service at the time, are working and not greeting ladies and may keep their hats on as they are on duty and not socializing.

  4. They should bow, and remove their cap.  Unless the Serviceman is reporting in an official capacity, in which case, a salute would precede a removal of the cap.  The cap is held under the arm of the service member, and strictest formal protocol is then continued.

    The only possible exception would be during a private audience with the Queen, and only if given permission to be informal.

  6. Men should remove their cap indoors most of the time. An exception may be if the serviceman is (for example) an orthodox Jew  then he needs to keep his head covered for religious reasons.
