Question:

Should she get 1 budgie or 2?

I'm thinking about getting my daughter a budgie. Her neighbors will help her take care of the bird. My daughter is 10, and her neighbors are 9 and 7. Are they old enough to take care of a bird themselves?

My daughter will continue going to school this fall, should she get one budgie or 2?

  1. They can take care of a bird themselves, just supervise in case your daughter forgets to feed the bird one day. I would get one bird. If you get two they will enjoy each other's company. However, if your daughter want's the bird to bond to her and hang out with her she should only get one. Otherwise they will pay attention to each other and not her.

  2. I believe they like to be with more than one, I would get two and by them from the same "litter" at the same time. I don't think the s*x matters, but if you get a male and female you could end up with babies. They aren't too hard to take care of, but they must be fed and have water every day and there cage needs a good cleaning every week.

  3. A Bugie would be a good first bird for your daughter. They are easy to manage, not loud, have an unique personality, tamable & even the p**p is bit sized (!). If you or your family can devote at least a couple of hours, then go for one. If not, get two. They will keep each other company. However, a single budgie is more easily tamable & soon starts considering you part of the flock. The kids should be able to manage, but it would be prudent for an adult to keep an eye over things, particularly in the crucial first weeks. Also. it's best that the taming / trainning process is carried out by an adult. I would suggest you go for a male budgie, 8-10 weeks old,- any smaller, it may be tricky for you, any older, it would take more effort to train. There are good sites on the net which you & your daughter can check out. Good luck to you & your budgie.

  4. from experience i would get two male budgies (males have the blue ceres). They are great pets, and if you dont have time to handtame them the two of them will thrive just by themselves, female budgies tend to be pushier and having two in a cage together might cause problems, goodluck!  check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/parakeets.h... for good budgie info

  5. GET 2!!! they hate being lonely! if you have a kind heart and care about the budgie then get 2! i have 2 myself and they love each other to death. think about it this way people don't like to be all alone so they need company to feel happy and not lonely. do this get 2 budgies i have 2 budgies and they play with each other all the time!
