Question:

Should slow drivers be punished for under speeding?

I'm always frustrated (although these days I've learned to live with it) of really slow and stupid drivers who over exagerate thier personal 'safety safety' principle and deliberatley cause others to overtake them!

So many accidents happen due to people overtaking idiot drivers like these..but after the accident its only the overtakers that get blamed, causing them even more misery and grief.

Do people not think drivers like these are inconsiderate to others and selfish?

Why can't speed camera's be designed to catch these 'criminals' too?

  1. In the state of Washington you can get a ticket for " Impeeding " traffic if you have 5 or more vehichles lined up behind you that can not pass.

  2. I think that all roads should have a Max speed posted and a Minimum speed.  I take a secondary highway to work and hate it when I get behind some farmer in a swather or some guy in a huge piece of equipment doing 40 when the speed limit is 100 and I need to get to work.

  3. I hate all drivers!!  I always drive what I think is safe for me to. Most of the time I'm above the limit, sometimes on certain roads I'm at or below. And the weather also plays a factor in everything, too.

I do dislike the people that cannot drive the limit. Whether they're afraid of the gas pedal or life in general who knows. I pass them and get on with mine. I do think they should start doing something about them, but on the other hand they aren't breaking any laws. So, who knows...

  4. I happened to notice that on many interstates running through the carolinas there is also minumum speed.

I agree that these b#tches should be punished.

  5. Most US states have laws to punish slow drivers that cause traffic problems. Unfortunately they are rarely enforced. When such drivers cause accidents they are almost never charged - or even identified as the cause!

Yes, such drivers are inconsiderate. If their skill level is so low that they can not safely (to themselves) drive faster then they should lose their license.

Speed cameras could be easily modified to identify such vehicles.

  6. There are fines for people who drive under the speed limit, but it's more dangerous to drive over the speed limit than under it, so more attention is given to the latter.  These types of drivers do irritate the c**p out of most people, but I wouldn't call these people "criminals".  The more dangerous people are the ones who get so pissed off that they speedily jump into the next lane and hit the gas to get in front of them (as though that's going to make a point to the slower driver).  Is it really necessary to get that angry when you're going to end up getting to your destination anyway?  Most of the time it's someone older, so I try to not lose my cool.  I imagine that if my mom or dad were driving slow, I wouldn't want someone screaming and flying off the handle b/c they're not driving at EXACTLY the speed limit.  These drivers don't set out to p**s people off, it's everyone else that's in such a d**n rush to get to where they have to go.  People need to just chill out a bit; I mean, if you need to be somewhere then make sure you leave early enough to where you're not rushing around.

However, the other culprit of slow driving is inexcusable...cell phones!  My take on it is this: if you can't multi-task enough to drive and talk, then either put the phone down or pull over.  Thank goodness most states have laws against driving and talking on cell phones.

  7. Where I am from, a person can be ticketed for driving under the minimum posted speed limit but it rarely happens and I do agree that this is a very big issue as well.................

  8. I agree that slow drivers can be annoying, but I do NOT agree that they are the cause of accidents.

People who are impatient or frustrated make unsafe lane changes and cause those accidents.

When you do something STUPID, it's no body's fault but your OWN.

  9. Speed limits are exactly that-LIMITS. This is the maximum speed at which you can drive. While slow drivers are a pain in the butt, (I cleaned that up because I got spanked by Yahoo for posting a question about stupid posters) they are well within their rights to drive slower than the posted limit, provided they are not causing a hazard. The definition of hazard goes back to what was posted the other day,it's all in what kind of day the cop is having.

Courteous drivers who are driving slowly will pull to the side when safe to allow backed-up traffic to pass.

  10. You can be prosecuted for driving to slowly or without due care and attention for other road users, especially if your actions endanger others.

  11. it's called "Impeding Traffic", the law allows you to drive under the speed limit by about 10 mph on most interstates, there as signs that say Maximum and signs that say Minimum  speed, and yes it drives me nuts too as I am a truck driver, my dad got one in Dallas one time on I-635, he was running 55 mph in a 55 mph zone but everybody else was trying to run 70 and there he was, puttin along at 55 in the hammer lane
