Question:

Should someone be banned from Yahoo answers for telling about being solicited for bribes by Chicago Police?

I got 'suspended' for telling about my experiences when I lived in Chicago 20 years ago. On two occasions when I got stopped for minor traffic infractions, the officer made it quite clear that he was willing to not write me a ticket in exchange for a little 'consideration' from me. One guy told me, 'what do you want to do, I'm easy to get along with'. What would you think that meant? Another told me he had written as much as he could write on the ticket, and the next thing he wrote would mean he had to give me the ticket, and what did I want to do? I told him I didn't have any money, and he finished writing the ticket. I'm not lying about any of this. Newspaper columnist Mike Royko of Chicago used to write about police accepting bribes all the time. I suppose if he was alive and posting on Yahoo answers, he'd get suspended too, huh? The only thing I can figure is I must have struck a nerve or something.

  1. I would imagine this would also be able to followed up on due to technology today in forms of on board camera and microphone. I would look for this to get worse in due time with more economic collapse. not due to ill enforcement by law society , but due to individual greed.

  2. Interesting. I don't know that I would share this type of experience on Yahoo! Answers, however. I would probably share the tales with a local reporter, e.g., someone who's followed in the tracks of Royko. Kass, perhaps.

I don't think Royko would use Yahoo! Answers if he were still around. He'd probably think it (Yahoo! Answers, not your situations) was pretty silly.

If you were sharing your stories because you merely wanted to tell them, it is not appropriate to post them here. Perhaps there was something particular about your post that violated Yahoo! Answers' terms of service.

  3. Probably done in a demeaning and/or profane manner.

  4. Some time the truth hurts and it look like what you said about the chicago cops hit the nail on the head. Sorry to hear that you got banned.

  5. I'm thinking because it's not a question, it's a statement.

  6. No,

the cops always think  they are right.

  7. You were probably suspended  because someone complained that your question was more of a 'rant' than a question honestly looking for an answer.  I could see that happening again because you are not really looking for an answer, you just want to 'have your say' about something that happened 20 years ago.  If you were suspended once for that why the hel* would you just turn around and do the same thing again?  Strange ..

  8. Unfortunately, all that is still going on, even 20 years later.

Problem with CPD is that there is no gray area.  If they're good cops, they're the best they can be, but when they're bad, they're the worst imaginable.

I think you struck a nerve with someone.

Now watch my answer get reported 'cause I picked on Daley's Boys.

  9. If you haven't worded it in the form of a question or an answer they will suspend you. God knows it happened to me 8 months ago.

I feel they have violated your rights to free speech though.

If you went on and on in the form of a rant against the LEO's of Chicago I may also have hit the report it button. It was 20 years ago, let it rest.

  10. Have you asked YA why you were suspended.

YA terms of service are clear, maybe you can spot which term you violated resulting in your suspension. Reviewing the terms of service I don't see striking "a nerve" to be a reason for suspension. So enlighten us.
