Should something be done to punish this teacher?

Long story short, a kindergarten teacher made a boy who was in the process of being diagnosed with autism (now diagnosed) stand before her class and have each student tell the little 5 year old boy what they didn't like about him before having them all vote on whether the boy should leave the classroom.

What this teacher did was unacceptable. Something needs to be done like revoking the license.

This child could be permanently scarred by this horrific experience.

If the story is completely factual and true then yes she should but the media tend to like this sort of thing.

I worked with a teacher many years ago who was accused of telling a child he was 'stupid and boring'.  It turned out not to be true.

of course the teacher should be punished children are already at danger to have low self-esteems and that seems like a way to shoot anyones self esteem way down, and to do that to a five yr. old is horrible, i would call a local news station as well as talk to the principal and superintendent of the school district.

i bet this is being blown out of proportion. you don't need a witch hunt here. you'll do fine on your own.

edit* oh and the media always gets the story straight. lets all jump to conclusions  - that always helps. while we're at it, lets believe everything children say because they never exaggerate or anything. I'm just playing devil's advocate here - you never know what actually took place and he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Probably not. If the boy was misbehaving he deserves it. Unless he is severely autistic and doesnt know any better. 30 years ago if this would happen and the boy told his parents.....his dad would probably beat him for being bad in class....but now all parents wanna take their kids side and look beyond their childs poor behavior. I didnt read the article so I dont know the specifics....but IF he did misbehave AND IF he should know better than to do what he did.....than the teacher did nothing wrong. Let the kid learn some discipline.

I watched the video and was amazed, how calm the mother of this cute little boy spoke. Yes, she was outraged but spoke very clearly about her ordeal. I probably would have yelled a lot out of anger and disappointment. I feel it's a disgrace, to say the least if "serious civil actions" are not taken ! I would have liked to see the Principal's apology on this interview ! I hope, through this story, other moms are aware of what goes on in today's schools!

She should be fired and never be allowed to teach again. She embarassed a poor 5 year old kid, turned his best friends against him and kicked him out of the class. I can't believe she is allowed to do this. There is a kid in my class that has problems like Alex but we don't go voting him out of the class. Just deal with it, it's not really that hard just spend a little bit more time with the child. Instead of being lazy and just kicking him out. The fact that the principal is not even caring is even worse. That school should be given new staff that can actually do their job. The teacher should be punished. What athourity does she have to do this? I've seen some bad teachers but this is terrible.

Well ...the parent should file a complain with the school principal ...and if an investigation is not done, and no action is taken then the parent should escalate it to the school superintendent ...probably at this level the child and the parent should receive an apology and remedy taken. Otherwise go to the next level ...the county supervisor(s) ...
