  1. um isnt liberty and freedom the same thing O_o  anywho and um not too much cause thats how u get crazy *** kids who dont listen to their parents and end up dead in a ditch somewhere or pregnant at 15 etc..

  2. Honestly, today's educational models and even society itself gives too much free reign to young students. I don't necessarily agree with it. With society and progress being the way that it is, many students lack decent values, self-control, respect for others, and a discipline for education. Sad to say, but it seems that a back to the basics approach (direct instruction complete with rote learning) would be more beneficial for educating kids sometimes. Children need to be held accountable for their learning on a level that they used to in earlier days. A lot of today's curriculum and instructional models look good and democratic on paper but they really undermine the role of the teacher in making sure kids achieve.

These approaches tend to put the child on equal footing with the teacher while all the time trying to teach at a higher level than student functioning. As a result, kids don't have a foundation. Example: I asked a student in my school what country he lived in and he answered New York!

I am a young teacher but I run my classroom in a way that lets kids know I am in charge. I set my tone from day one. I don't smile and laugh at them. When I have to, I will be agressive and I will speak in a certain manner to get a point across in a way that they can understand (urbanisms haha!!). We ARE NOT friends on any level. I don't allow random movement around the classroom. They cannot leave the room to go to the bathroom when they feel like it, or get water, or get the jacket they left in the cafeteria, etc. There are certain routines and they get used to it right away. We don't deviate from the routines that I DECIDE. Negative behaviors result in immediate consequences that they don't like. My result: well-behaved class for the most part even though some things can't be controlled. I do this so that I can set them up to learn. No management = no learning taking place.

Teachers who are less-discipline oriented have more and serious behavior problems and less time for instruction because they are dealing with the child's "freedom".

  3. well.....children WANT a lot of freedom, n liberty, but parents think that children NEED discipline cuz they r still small, so i guess children shouldnt be given sooooooo much freedom or liberty, but u should children have some freedom n liberty sometimes, but always make sure u noe where they r, n that their safe

  4. too much of everything is not good,

so no. TOO much liberty is not good.

but suppressing their freedom is not good too.

thanks for the two points!! :-D :-D :-D
