  1. I personally would love to see it an Olympic sport and have tried to make it happen a number of times.  There is now also a chance that surfing could become an Olympic sport using the new wave pool designs that are emerging.  However, for a number of reasons, it won't happen for a long time.

Actually, the USSF applied for surfing to become an Olympic sport about 4-5 years back but it was rejected.  Basically, it takes 7 years from application to approval for a new sport.  During the application process, Surf America replaced USSF as the US NGB, and the criteria for a new men's or women's sport changed.  Now you need 70 countries with national competitions for a new men's sport, and 40 for an new women's sport.  Surfing has 43 countries.  Australia couldn't get surfing into the games and China didn't try.  Maybe if Surf America can write a new application for women's surfing and if the USOC will nominate the sport when we host the next games, it's possible but not likely.

  2. well i don't know as stated below the games would need to be near water or they could build a wave pool(but that's just not as fun) there is only some many places that you can expect to have good surf constantly. so that would limit the Olympics to certain places IE. California, Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia.. but not to many more places.

so no, i don't think so. there is already the tour witch is big enough. the rip curl cup is like the surfing Olympics!

  3. The HB Snake gave you the definitive answer. As far as needing an ocean, wave pool technology could be a significant plus. Don't forget that Kayaking and sailing are Olympic sports, and sometimes the venues where these events take place are far away from the main Olympic Village. So surfing, wave pool technology or not, is not out of the question, even if the main venue isn't on the beach.

And as for the fairness of competitors coming from non surfing locales, don't forget about the Jamaican Bobsled team.

  4. I suppose. It takes a lot of courage and practice to surf. I find it a very interesting sport, but it may be hard to incorperate with the Olympics because the communities will have to be near the water; which is a bit unfair. I'm sure they could figure something out thogh. I think they should add surfing to the Olympics.

  5. adding surfing 2 the olympics would be awesome I love watching people surf and I like it myself, but it might be kinda unfair because of the difference in waves.

ps sorry i don`t know how to spell olimpics
