  1. YES!  Public humiliation is an integral part of good teaching as it degrades the degenerates in the class therefore discouraging bad behavior.

  2. I actually had a teacher who would compile all of the notes he would see laying around or caught people with them and actually make them into a book. He would then read them out to all of his classes, I have to admit - we all found it pretty funny. Teacher's classroom, Teacher's rule. Don't put yourself in that situation in the first place.

  3. They can if they want. If you don't want this to happen, then don't pass the notes around. I think that this is a sure way to get it to stop.

  4. Instead of embarrassing the kid out of doing it again, it just humiliates the child, and that's simply unnecessary. Also, it's an invasion of privacy, regardless of age.

However, disciplinary action should be taken to teach the child that this is unacceptable behavior.

  5. Yes and no..depending on the content.

    1. They shouldn't be writing notes in class in the first place.

    2. There's no privacy law protecting  letter writing. In fact, many subs and teachers will read these notes to themselves, and depending on the content they will decide if any action needs to take place.

ie. I read a letter (to myself) that a 14 yr old was having s*x with two guys. I reported it to the AP.

  6. No. It's rude.

  7. No...I think that the teacher shouldn't read the notes outloud. I, however, don't see anything wrong with the teacher personally reading the note and talking to the students about how note passing is not tolerated and that if they are caught again, they will be punished.

  8. its an invasion of privacy so now. however the students should be punished for distracting other students  from learning.

  9. Why shouldn't they be allowed? Teachers need to be given some level of slack to discipline kids. I bet it's mostly kids with this invasion of privacy nonsense. "Invasion of privacy" has become such a cliche that it has little meaning now. If it were so private, then they wouldn't have been passing notes around class.

Watching kids get undressed for gym or using the students personal information for private use is an invasion of privacy. Not reading some dumb kid's note in class which they shouldn't have been passing around in the first place.

  10. not in the job description. period.  more for counselors....actually shows the teacher is not focused on teaching.....way bad call......

  11. No I wouldnt do that because its humiliating and can lead to bullying and self-esteem issues.

I would keep the note read it silently so they are aware that I now know (which means chances are they will be embarrassed and not risk it anymore esp as many of our notes were "you fancy Mr Soandso dont you" :) )

and speak to them after class.

  12. Well it's their choice whether if they want to read out loud or not.

There's no saying where teachers AREN'T allowed, but it would be better if they don't.

Sometimes, teachers just love to make fool out of students in somewhat or to make it as a *joke*
