In the National Football League (America's grid-iron league), they play the All-Star match the week following the Super Bowl. Would you watch Victoria play South Australia at the M.C.G. if it were played the week following the Grand Final? Should it be played at another time, pre-season perhaps? Here are what the teams may look like:

South Australia -

FB N.Bassett, B.Rutten, J.Rivers

HB G.Johncock, C.Cornes, R.Griffen

FO D.Brogan, M.Pavlich, K.Cornes

CE B.Burton, S.Goodwin, A.Cooney

HF S.Burgoyne, W.Tredrea, T.Edwards

FF M.O'Loughlin, M.Ricciuto, A.Didak

Int L.Darcy, M.Bode, D.Pearce, B.Pickett

Victoria -

FB D.Wirrpanda, M.Scarlett, L.Gilbee

HB C.Newman, M.Maguire, L.Hodge

FO T.Simmonds, A.Goodes, C.Judd

CE T.Johnstone, Dal N.Santo, L.Ball

HF R.O'Keefe, J.Brown, G.Ablett Jnr

FF S.Lucas, M.Lloyd, N.G. Brown

Int J.White, A.Yze, T.Croad, A.Davey

  1. Yes. I think Victoria will would have the edge with Aaron Davey, Matthew Lloyd,Johnathan Brown, Gary Ablett Jr,Linsay Gilbee, David Wirrapanda,Chris Judd, Adam Goodes, and Scott Lucas.

But South Australia would also do well with Luke Darcy, Byron pickett, Danyle Pierce,Mark Riccuto, Matthew Pavlich and Michael O Loughlin.

Now that I think about it both teams are evenly matched , it would be hard to pick a winner.

  2. State of Origin used to be an event all footy mad victorians would watch.  I would watch Vic vs SA, but why not have a NSW and QLD team?  Rugby league has huge success with SOO and the AFL is missing out on a huge opportunity, and if it was held a week after finals the players included could give 100%

  3. I definitely think they should bring it back. The only problem is Victoria would most likely dominate.

South would win this match simply because they have Didak.

  4. Definitely not. the players are asked to play too much now.

  5. Victoria better team and more goal scoring power

  6. yeah im a big fan of bringing back the state of origin, personally id get rid of the NAB cup and play a state of origin knockout comp or if this wasn't the best option play origin after the season in stead of the international rules rubbish.

id probably back the vics from the two teams you've listed above.

  7. Congrats, on your research efforts of both teams.  To get a result ( who wins ) you could  go back to work, and get the  result from either stats, from last weeks round or on the averages over the five rounds , eg  Mathew Lloyd season stats averaged on 5 games played.. 10kicks, 5marks, 4h/balls score 3.1. THEN AGAIN YOU HAVE INCLUDED PLAYERS CURRENTLY INJURED.  It would take some time, and in the end you might ask yourself " whats the point ", and thats the same question I ask in regards to actually playing these type of games,   Clubs pay big bucks to contract players and why would you wont to risk a serious injury for a game of 'no particular relivance'.  Another point is the career ending injury to Collingwood's Blake Caracella last season, just imagine the Mick Malthouse press conference, if that injury occurred in one of these games  !!!  Maybe the AFL comission would cringe at the thought, then what would the players Association offer as an excuse for the game being played after such an incident.      I realise this is all "what if".. but really WHAT IF?

  8. well i think it would be good for the afl to bring back sate of origian but there is too many vicotrians built in to the other sates teams to have any chance of a fair contest.
