Should the All Blacks get a new Coach or one from the Pass and should Graham Henry maintain his job?

I'm over the All Blacks lost and now time to look forward to the next one.

But I do have to ask the question is New Zealand Rugby Union going to continue sacking Coaches if they fail to win the World Cup?

Has New Zealands’ Rugby come to the point where only the World Cup matters and the decisions of selecting the All Black Coach are base on who will succeed in wining it?

In my opinion, both Mitchell and Graham can only learn from their mistakes when it comes to the World Cup.

Both have succeed in the development of New Zealand players in giving them the opportunity of playing in the Black jersey ensuring players stay hungry to continue their development to be given another opportunity in the future.

They have both done well when it comes to test matches and other games that the All Blacks have played.

But I do have to worry about when All Black looses the other games, the excuse of focusing on the World Cup is always being used.

  1. Well henry has to get sacked because mitchell was for a 3rd placing, but after this or should i say from now on they should stop that and focus on each aspect of the all blacks campaign and work on each one at a time.

  2. i have 2 disagree on the john mitchell part he lost new zealand theyr best ever fullback christian cullen with his fascination of caanterbuy rugby

  3. I agree regarding Graham Henry but not quite so sure about the equating him with John Mitchell. Henry has said all along he won't renew his contract so why humiliate him by sacking him as they did with Hart and Mitchell.Watching the Air NZ Cup ( better rugby than the WRC) there are a dirthe of brilliant players waiting in the wings. Give a new brain the opportunity to develop some of these first then worry about 2011!  Robbie Deans  has that philosophy. So??????????

  4. Sinatra says "I did it my way", Well GH certainly did that!

Well his way didn't work, and Rugby suffered in this country as result of it. Time for one R. Deans to take the reins and have a go!

  5. Before you address the future of the coach, address the makeup and the competency of the NZRFU.  Reading Fran's page in the Herald as I crossed the ditch yesterday, she was hard to refute in regard to governance and the board's acquiesence of GH's strategy.

By the way, Hobbs and the board should be sacked for lumbering NZ ratepayers with the cost of the 2011 Cup.

  6. Henry’s contract was tied to the world cup success and as he failed to deliver, so he must face the music. I think he is a great coach and his winning percentage will go down as one of the greatest in the history of the game but his contract was all about one thing. He was given a lot of leeway with rotations, resting players for the super 14 etc on the premise he would bring Bill back but he fell short here.

As for a future coach, I have no doubt that Robbie Deans is the man. Every man and his dog wants him and if you done a snap poll in NZ now about who should take over from Henry you would likely get more than 50% come back with his name. His record with the Crusaders is amazing and he knows how to prepare sides for knockout finals.

  7. I think Henry had no interest in staying on post WC.

He will most likely jump before being pushed.

Who's next . . . love to see Deans in the top job but think he may have already burnt his bridges. Gatland could do it.

    Or how about Kirwin ?
