Question:

Should the Americans who drive into Mexico be taxed for the cheaper gas that they buy in Mexico?

Should they be required to declare the gasoline that they purchased in Mexico and should they be required to pay a duty to the United States? Do you believe that this practice is smuggling or do you think that it is ok to deprive the American Treasury of the taxes that they would have received if the gas was purchased in the United States?

  1. No. If they are vacationing in Mexico they have to put gas in there car sooner or later. Why should they have to pay taxes on that?

  2. No, they should be given money for being smart when they come back to the states (just kidding)

I do believe that much of Mexico's oil is nationalized.

I also believe here is something who's time has come.

    ============

I believe the oil companies need to be nationalized and the profits go back to the people in the form of lower taxes.Same with our communications systems.

Where I live in China as a transplanted American, both are nationalized and a gallon of gas costs about a buck less, and my cell phone bill is obscenely little. About $15 a month and I use it extensively.

Plus, I pay zero sales tax, and tax on a home is very small to non existent, plus I have no income tax, despite that I make considerably more then the average person.

There is a lot of revenue to be made off of both which gives the people more disposable income. A win for the government, a win for the people, a win for our economy. It will just pizzzz off the fat cats, one that some love to support, yet they don't give a rats behind about their supporters.

We often hear that the oil companies have a vested interest to give alternative energy only lip service.  What better way to take care of that problem then put energy in the hands of the people.  We need a Manhatten type of program to help eliminate our dependance on foreign oil while putting on the fast track alternative energy sources.  The oil companies will fight both till all we will have left is a drop in the bucket of what we really need, all while we, the tax payer, continues to give them welfare bucks.

What I fail to understand, people will fight tooth and nail to support the oil companies while continuing to pay high energy prices (at a profit that lines the pocket of the fat cat, who doesn't give one hoot about them.) and pay high taxes to boot. Kind of like, shooting themselves in the head just to prove they can. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I'm a capitalist, but when it comes to this, I must put my foot down and say, enough is enough.

Case in point, in Venezuela, who has nationalized oil, they pay 13 cents a gallon.

  3. I agree with you they should nationalize the gas in the States it will keep down prices because there will not be competition between greedy oil companies. Everyone would pay the same price.

  4. Wouldn't that be taxation without representation? In my opinion you should pay taxes where you buy the stuff.

I'd go with the nationalization of the oil except, there isn't much oil to nationalize right? We'd still have to import most of it so we are still subject to market forces outside the US.

I favor moving away from oil all together.

  5. Yes for a couple of reasons. As you said the taxes and also depriving our economy. I thought good Americans didn't care what they had to pay to keep America strong. The business owners in America need your support ppl. Besides I think if they need visas to cross here then we should 2 coz otherwise we're being hypocrites about taking advantage of another countries subsidized programs just like the welfare they supposedly get here.

  6. It's OK when it benefits them! This is not helping out the US economy one bit, so yes! I think they should get taxed.

  7. I agree with ^^^^ the oil filteration in Mexico is not like in the US and is very high in sulfer. It will totally mess up your car. So, you will pay much higher taxes buying a new car than you will save on gas going to Mexico.

  8. As if this is a big problem.

  9. Nope. They're getting 'screwed' anyway because gasoline in Mexico is a lot heavier than here and will mess up their engines in the long run. We will suffer as well if this becomes a trend because Mexican gasoline emits a lot more junk than ours does.

  10. I consider it stealing from Mexico, their government subsidizes fuel for it's citizens.

  11. No there should be no American taxes or tariff on gas purchased in Mexico. JMO

  12. Yea they should be taxed and all the money sent to your bank account. Where do you come up with this c**p.......

  13. as it is there is a long wait to cross back at every international crossing....  what do you want? petrol police checking how much gas you had when you crossed and how much when you cross back? we would waste as much money enforcing it and implenting it than we would in gaining revenue from it.
