Question:

Should the CFL and the NFL have a championship game?

i hope most who read this are aware of the differences between the Canadian and the American football first, the championship would have to merge the two styles, not the leagues(i.e. the horrendous AFL-NFL merger of 1970) , that would be a travesty to both forms of football as was the afore mentioned AFL-NFL merger which the NFL took all the AFL's great ideas and left it in purgatory, so to speak. But if the could be a middle ground found, like keep the CFL's 3 down rule but shorten the field or vice versa, rule changes along those grounds. the obstacles are blatantly obvious to those who know both games well, like myself, know it's a challenge but say 30-40 years down the road slight changes to both games could be made, hopefully, not comprise the integrity of either game but to bring them close enough to be able to play a championship game to crown a true World Champion, much like baseball needs to. The games are distinctively different but a middle ground could be found i hope......

  1. Maybe against NFL Europe.  Remember that most Americans in the CFL are cut by the NFL.

  2. I'ma big fan of both leagues and appreciate the uniqueness they both present.

Which leads me to ask :  what would be won in such a merger ?

  3. i think it would be fun play the cfl vs nfl in preseaons games. 1year go by the cfl rules then next year go by nfl rules.

  4. No way the CFL can handle the NFL

  5. No.  The rules are different.

Should the top box lacrosse team play the top field lacrosse team?  Should the top rugby union team play the top rugby league team?  Should the top F-1 driver race against the top Indy car driver?  Should the top 200m runner race against the top 100m runner?

The field size is different.  The number of downs is different.  The way the teams line up for each play is different.  The number of players on the field is different.  In addition to the field size and rule differences, there is also the different start and end to the seasons - in other words the players have different training seasons.

While there are some very good players in the CFL and some very average players in the NFL, the depth of an NFL team is much, much deeper.   That's what happens when your roster contains 15 more players and the average salary per player is 10-15x larger.

Such an event would be an  interesting curiousity, but not much else.

In the meantime, you can watch the NFL Global Junior championship (won last year by Canada) for your international grid-iron football fix.

  6. No.There rules are two different.

  7. yah i think they should do something like that but with europe to so it would be like a world championship game but we all know europe and canada would get their @$$ kicked by the U.S no offense but we are better

  8. Lord, would that be funny. The CFL would get their as*ses handed to them!

The CFL is for the players who couldn't make the NFL. That should be the first clue...

  9. yes they shoul and NFL would win

  10. The problem you are looking at is talent.  Not that the CFL doesn't have any talent, but the NFL has the best talent collectively as a league that there is for football.

As for sports that you think should be on the world stage, keep in mind that the only time these sports are somewhat competitive is in an olympic environment, and they are pulling players from professional American sports to do it.

I'm not saying the US has the best athletes in the world or anything, but this is where they come to make the big money.

  11. everybody that answers will say the cfl champ will get crushed annually but the jets never were supposed the colts, u.s. never supposed to beat c.c.c.p. in olympic hockey, boise state never supposed to beat oklahoma, etc., etc.

    it's a cool idea

  12. that sounds like a great idea. u should go for it.

  13. Won't work due to significant differences in talent caused by the economics of the two leagues.

There have been cross-league meetings in the past.  Funny enough, the last time it happened, Hamilton beat Philadelphia...however, I suspect the BC Lions, the current CFL best, would make the Detroit Lions look awfully good at the moment.

  14. It's a great idea. They would have to have an All-Star  CFL team against regular or Championship NFL team though.

Otherwise the CFL would get massacred by the NFL.

I think it would be good for Pro Football to have such a contest every year.

  15. of course everyone is going t say that cfl would get killed by nfl.because they would,, where do you think nfl players go when they are not good enough anymore====to canada and play the cfl..come on you really think that would be a good game...i guess you guys would like to see a team beat worse than the bills did when they played the cowboys in the super bowl

  16. Good idea. The NFLers would kick the CFLers ***. It would be a very close game
