  1. Why?

Green was suffering financial and legal problems and the area's fan base was low. there wasnt much local support for the franchise. with Greens northern mall empire threatening to fall into receivership and a sexual harassment lawsuit against him working its way through the Minnesota court system, Green demanded concessions for his team that the area and state were unwilling to give, so he moved the team to Dallas.

They needed to move. At the time move to dallas, fold, or sell were his only options.

  2. If they hadn't moved, I wouldn't be watching Hockey today.

I have grown into a Die-Hard Stars fan and am thrilled to have them here in Big "D"!!!

By the way, I want to thank Minnesota for accepting Herschel Walker on the Vikings and providing the Cowboys with some great picks...one of which turned into Emmitt Smith.  We appreciate your gracious gifts to the city of Dallas.

Oh wait, we are only talking hockey...I thank you for giving us the Stars!!!

  3. High School hockey games were drawing more fans than the North Stars when they moved in 1993.

By that standard, they should have moved. And with the influx of transplants here in Dallas (half of whom were from the state of Michigan), they already had a built in fanbase here.

Had they not moved, I'd be a long suffering Blackhawks and Islanders fan. Now, I'm also a Stars fan.

  4. i really dont know

  5. Should you haven stayed off this section, where you belong!

  6. the team should have moved but the name should have stayed. texas has the most cheesy and uncreative names in sports. next time i am there i will mess with texas. also no pro hockey teams should be below st. louis.

  7. No... they couldn't make money in Minnesota in the last few seasons in Minnesota.  They couldn't fill the arena there and they found a building market in Dallas and a owner interested in spending more money on the team... in less than 20 years in Dallas they have built a local following, consistent seasons with sell-outs and always at least selling 85% of seats.

Since this is a business I completely understand why they did this.  The Dallas, Tx area has tons of transplants from the North and Canada... the median income is much higher than the rest of the US.  It all makes sense to me for a team in a league that has to rely on a local market to support them.

BTW, I like the Wild and I'm glad that Minnesota got a team back... but the North Stars were not surving there and it was time for them to move.

  8. you must not know what a hypocrite Norm Green was (Oiler fans can sympathize with what Pocklington did to their team, just like Shemkarov with the Jets, and Aubut with the Nordiques)

on the other hand, thanks in no small part to the Stars success, there are now more pro hockey teams in Texas than in any state or province!

jbird50 - like in Leningrad Cowboys go America "get lost and don't ever come back"
