Question:

Should the Dees play two home games in Canberra next year?

The Dees will pocket $600,000 if they do. I think it is a great idea, but won't their supporters in Melbourne get frustrated? They have only a few games a year at prime times. They play mostly on Sundays. Their supporters don't get to see many games.

Also, a little sub question - Do the Kangaroos still play at Manuka, or are they playing at Carrara instead?

  2. yes

  3. They definitely should

600 000 is a good start for Jim Stynes as well

Yes Melbourne supporters are missing out on two games but more than half of their games are played in Melbourne anyway

Also the Kangaroos have no games at Manuka they play at Carrara

  4. The Kangaroos have stopped playing in Canberra because the ACT government were too stingy with their money and the Gold coast offered more. Also Melbourne should play games in Canberra for many more years for two reasons 1) the government benefits 2) If they stay in for the long haul they will build up a large enough support base in Canberra to rival that of Sydney's

  5. i think they should, every dollar helps, and 600,000 is a really good start, the western bulldogs have done similar playing home games in darwin and sydney, and its helped us financially. and the team get replacement home games, so the members don't miss out with their membership.

  6. yeh sure why not it will only advantage and encourage people in canberra.

  7. If this helps them survive, why not. But they won't have many fans at the game as most of them will support the swans.

  8. it doesnt matter how much money they get....as far as im concerned no team is in real danger financially.

if you think about it, wat about the millions of dollars floating around the sponsers?????? they can take out one sponcer instead of losing supporters and make a lot of things work right. they are a good club and no their financial situation is not critical. jeff kennet just wants to be in the media.

  9. I'm an ACT lad, so I can answer this for you.

The ACT Govt is enticing AFL games to Manuka Oval, they redeveloped it ten years back.  The reason is tourism.  Get the Melbourne supporters to travel to Canberra, watch the game (hopefully a win for the Dees) stay at hotels, go to pubs, restaurants, spend money.

It isn't a test to see if the AFL should base a team in Canberra, they won't.

North Melbourne's deal with the ACT Govt was not renewed.  They are trying some Gold Coast games, but I think it will be the ultimate death of them.  I expect North Melbourne to fold within five years.
