The French navy is comparable to ours. And their nukes don't need American permission to be fired.

Anyway it will be a considerable saving on defence if we bang it all in together. At the moment our govt just splashes out billions of our hard earned money on some expensive stuff we never need till its all scrapped.

WE SURE don't need (to fight the Taliban rag tops):

1 Submarines

2 Helicopters

3 Aircraft

4 Aircraft carriers

5 Tanks

6 Nukes

7 Warships

8 Spy planes

9 Bombers

10 The list goes on

WHY when there are so many homeless and starving do we spend so much in pursuit of about 500 men in sandals armed with rusty AK47s?

Edit: they just say the Queens navy and stuff. The days that the Navy belonged to the Monarchy are long over lady

This all comes about because we have a European Union that wants to become a United States of Europe rather than a free trade area of nation states. So whe the constitution was voted down by France and Holland they went away and came up with the Lisbon treaty - the constitution in all but name.

The current Government were so scared of another loss that it refused to give the people the chance to vote and so the government have agreed to join the Lisbon club. We were left with no say.

Thank goodness the Republic of Ireland have voted against the treaty and so should have killed it stone dead. However, I suspect Europe will find a way to overturn their vote..

The Sun is indulging in a bit of yellow journalism. At PMQs Brown stated that such reports were totally untrue.

An "EU Army" has got no chance of getting its hands on a British carrier.

Apart from anything else while NATO exists there is no need for an EU Army. Why do you think that Sarkozy wants France to rejoin NATO?

Apart from anything else Sarkozy is as nutty as a fruitcake and about as popular in France as Maggie Thatcher was in the UK before the Right sanctified her.

Can you figure an EU Navy?

France gets to sail where it wants.

Italy stays in port on rainy days.

Germany sails only if they won't get shot at - because they cannot shoot back.

Austria - urm?

Ireland might send a fishing boat armed with swearing man.

Sweden - Yes, we really need ice breakers with global warming.

Spain - stays in port when there's a football match

Portugal - only on a Tuesday.

So it'll be down to Britannia to rule the waves, on behalf of everyone else. Just like we are doing in Afghanistan.

It's always very amusing when i hear talk of an  EU military Yall should know yanks can't serve in your military so what good would it do you? I have to say this, with all due respect, the EU do whatever they like to this country and our politicians are a spineless bunch of fools. Our country is filling up with a mass of people that we have no control over but don't blame the immigrants, blame the idiots in charge as if you live in a pile of c**p in a bankrupt country with no money and someone says go here and you get whatever you want, what would you do? who are the stupid ones?, US.
