We've given enough money out over the years.

I'm sick of hearing the moans from Scotland in particular.

Scotland are paying the money out to smokers now. (just watch - they'll start smoking again)

Let's let Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland look after themselves now. It's time they stood on their own two feet.

  1. England needs the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irelanders to pull them out when thet get involved in conflicts. Unity is strength so NO is the answer to your question.

  2. go if you want. it was you lot who begged for a union in the first place. but i guess your selective memory's forget that one. didn't hear to many of you moaning when thatcher gave Scotland the dreaded poll tax a year before you lot, and yet now you seem to think we should bother about you. i don't think so mate. there's hardly any of you English down there as it is last time i looked. plenty up here though.

  3. I think, since there are many scots wanting independence, we should let them have it. I'm sick of hearing about them getting free prescriptions, free uni fees, £1000 extra per head, and yet they pay less to the treasury than the UK.

  4. The motre natural border is to link the ancient Northumbria with Scotland (ie all north of Hull/Liverpool)   Then the south is welcome to its indepemdance!!

  5. England would be better off financially with over 17% of the UK GDP being produced in London alone, and that figure rises to over 30% if the London commutter district is taken in to account.

England accounts for over 85% of total UK GDP.

The Scots would be worse off, the Welsh would be even worse off than the Scots (with only a tiny GDP) and the English would be better off, so there is some logic in England pushing for Independence.

Scotland has a GDP of £86 Billion (including North Sea Oil), or between 8% and 9% of GDP meaning Scotland has a similar GDP to that of the West Midlands and that is with it's oil. The South West of England also accounts for 8% of UK GDP.

    Yorkshire's GDP is £81 Billion.

North West of England being not far behind with a GDP of £77 Billion.

However it makes little sense to have numerous countries on the small island that we share. I like the Scots would not wish to see the balkanisation of the UK.

The people of Northern England are English through and through, and I should know I am one of them, there is no way that northern England will join Scotland.

  6. Yes they should, countries like scotland and wales will do much better on their own! although how would we split the army and the weapons of mass distruction that the British govenment keep in Scotland???

  7. Please tell us .again.how great your free heath care is,and how the whole world  has lost it's respect for America

  8. Unfortunately it dose not work like that , those countries help your forefathers in the past , its now your turn to repay the debt

  9. Something like "United we Stand, Divided we Fall" comes to mind!

Financially none of the countries currently comprising the United Kingdom could stand on its own.

None of these countries are getting things completely right - but at least they are trying.

Consider this - why not get rid of your local councils and let all the governance be done from London - no I thought not.

Preserving national and local identities and rights are important.  Some of that has to be done more locally.

No system is perfect - what is your alternative?

  10. No definitely not, we should all have stayed together. This dilution of the Union was not done for the benefit of the Welsh and Scots, it was done to make our eventual takeover by the EU that much easier. Also, whilst squabbling amongst ourselves over who contributes/benefits the most, we are distracted from the real issues affecting this once great country.

  11. Yes!I will vote for that!!

  12. fine -

The Scots will become one of the richest nations with their territorial waters hosting oil & gas fields.

or were you only talking about land - somewhat simplistic of you.

there are intrinsic benefits to the Union for all of us - diversity of culture, education systems and even law systems.  Even the tories used that to experiment the poll tax before wider devastation.  The diversity makes us richer, keeps us competitive with other nation states.  I never hear of the Germans wanting to lose elements of their (far more federal) regions, and there must be some aspect of cross-subsidy there?

    Here's the question...

Why would you suggest something so juvenile and contrary to common sense.  Even moronic???

With all you little englanders - it's all about the cash and no deeper analysis.

  13. YES!
